can i use any standard dvd drive to replace the xbox one...

...the reason being i'd like to just insert the cd's and not have a trey come out...

u wont be able to play originals from the drive i believe, plus you may need a bigger hard drive to put games on

To use another DVD drive, I believe you need to have the correct firmware flashed to it for it to function correctly in an xbox, not 100% though.

You wish to make your own xbox case from scratch, correct? With a CD palyer style DVD drive (one that opens up instead of the tray coming out)?

If I understand correctly, it would probably just be easier to modify your original xbox dvd drive. Thats just my opinion though. Play around with a few different ideas, and see which one works best for you Wink

You can use any standard DVD drive, BUT you will not be able to play original Xbox disks.

If you are making a case from scratch, you could make a couple of external connections that you could use to connect the Original Xbox DVD for when you wanted to load a new game onto the HDD.
