I will be doing my first softmod tomorrow and I have read through most of the tutorials. I am using am a usb/xbox cable with a usb thumbdrive.
I haven't decided on which game to use, I have access to two of them (Mechassault/Splinter Cell). I want to make sure this can be done on a version 1.0 box and wish me luck.

Good Lick! *check your quote*

I did mine the other day, but on a chipped box and it was beta testing for DJB. It seems easy enough, just follow the unleash x menu, which is actually really nice and easy.

2 options for each action (MS and Mod)

easy.

A few things you'll want to save before you go installing apps and shtuff.
Make a back up of your eeprom, msdash, and game saves. Then ftp them to your pc. That way if by chance you get an error message, you'll have the files to save your system.

Ok, most of you by now, will note that I never got a chance to do a softmod back last August.
But I did try doing it last night on two different boxes.
Here are the problems I ran into.
First: My usb stick was not compatible (PNY 128MB)
Second: I tried using my camera as a method, use the memory card and attached a usb cable, seemed to work for transferring the files.
Third: Used a memory card (Official Xbox Version) This worked as well
Fourth: External HardDrive....just checking

Anyway...I looked at the files I would be needing. I checked both the AID3.1 and SID 4.5. I decided to try the 4.5 first. So I looked at the zipped files, followed the manual and transferred the.ZIP files to my memory card.
Ok, that doesn't work, they don't show up. I checked some other toots I found on the net and it mentioned I need to unzip them first and "include the folders ith numbers and such, not just the contents." Well That would include the UDATA file as well as the 21585554 folder and so on...right?
That just listed them as corrupt. So I drilled down further and put just the 21585554 folder and the contents on, still corrupt. hmmm.

Drill down again, get the 0000000000 folder and the two other files in the Sid.zip. That seems to work, copy them to the hard drive.

Good, it looks like I know what I'm doing.
So I grab the ma.zip and get it transferred the same way.

Now when I look at the save games after trasferring them to my harddrive they are under the category of XBMC.

I load MechAssult (carefully picked up at GameStop for $2.99(non- platinum version).

Load the game go to campaign.....
No Run Linux Profile.....WTH?!?!?
Try again and again, check the serial number on the inner ring of the
disc, looks like the right one, try transferring the files again in different ways mentione above. Still no go.

Try the Splinter Cell save game, transfer is good, same set up. no go.

Keep in mind this is across about 4 hours and two differenr boxes. Still no go.

Any ideas on what is going wrong?

how are you transfering the game saves??
You should be transfering them as is..

Personally i find SID3 to work just fine and be the simplest to understand the basics before jumping into SID4 and the virtual drives etc.

Since you have a modded xbox already just insert your memory card into your modded machine and ftp the files over to the memory card.

Then it will work just fine on any other non-modded machine when you try to copy.

good to see a reply got ya back here bro..

I think I've got what you mean, transfer the game saves to my modded xbox harddrive, then use the MS dash to transfer them to the memory card them transfer them to the unmodded box. Is that right? because I never tried that.

Now that work has slowed down a little I have had some free time to look into by favorite hobbies. I hate being away so long.

No,

What i mean is this..

1. Have the SID files that you need to copy ready on your pc.
2. Connect a official M$ Memory card or any normal memory card if you have one.
3. Boot your modded xbox (previously modded and hacked)
4. Boot to your hacked dashboard
5. Open your FTP Client and make sure you press the F5 button to do a hard refresh..
6. You should see a new drive letter for your memory card..
7. Copy the files over..

Now you are ready to insert that memory card into the NON MODDED xbox..

1. Boot the normal M$ Dashboard (retail) on the non modded xbox
2. Insert the memory card
3. Copy the files from the memory card to the xbox hdd using the normal method
4. done

now you are ready to boot the game and start the install

1. boot your game
2. go into the game saves menu and choose to load the save game called LINUX or XBOX LINUX
3. thats it.. follow any softmod tutorials

done and done.

NEVER UNLOCK A SOFTMODDED XBOXES HDD.. just a tip.
until you know what your doing a little more anyway..

Yeah Hobbs, that is exactly what I did.
But I had to do the files the way I mentioned, should they be the zip files or the files after they are unzipped?

Well I got it to work on both boxes. I had to use the AID 3.03 feature to save the save games to the memory card. (I didn't even know it was there)
So I got it to work, but I might lay out a tutorial for the rest of the tards like me. heh.

Anyway.
After getting the save games onto the box, I started MA and went into run linux, everything went good.
Then I followed the tutorial for the install. backed up the M$ dash, the eeprom, and then installed the SoftMod, Dual Boot. Installed The Evox Dash.
Rebooted and......... nothing. Error 21 . What happened to the 10 minute install. Aaaahhh. Then tried several different methods, no go. Sooooo. I popped in the AID 3.03 disc. And rebooted. It took a second, then started right up. So the mod worked, the dash did not. I followed the directions, but I still must have missed something initially.
But After doing the one click install, I also had to do a softmod load of the XBMC Dashboard.

So I figured out the pattern, but It wasn't as fool proof as it should be.,
