Hi!
I succesfully soft-modded my 1.6 xbox with SID 2.0. After it installed i noticed my E:/ only had around 4 gigs on it left. I figured it was from the 3 cds i ripped before i had the xbox modded, so i looked around how to delete them..couldnt find them. I found partitions x, y, and z though, all around 750megs, so im guessing those are teh cds, if anyone can help me id be grateful, thanks!

well after i softmod a xbox there usually around 4500 megabytes left(4gigs and 500 megs) so really your fine but if want to delet those sound tracks anyway heres how. all you gotta do is simply go into your E drive then goto TDATA and then theres a folder called"fffe0000' inside that theres a folder called "music" inside that folder is all the music you have put on your xbox through the original dash. laterz _________________ xbox v1.0

There are two good ways of doing this without screwing up. First, what happens to the music from the CD:
See, when you ripped the music into your XBOX HDD from the original CD's through the MS Dashboard, it installs to a folder (/E/TDATA/fffe0000/music) and appends a file called ST.DB so that the XBOX knows the music is there. This file is Not Accessible through Microsoft Access, so manual editing is out of the question if you wanted to add/delete music on your own. This is a proprietary thing, and would go completely overlooked had the XBOX mod community never existed, but it does, so there are ways to manually add/delete music files, even whole soundtracks at will. Here are the ways to do just that.
1. Access the MS dash, and delete the soundtracks from there. For some reason, this seems to be the least used process, even though anyone that runs a locked HDD (or that can lock/unlock as needed) can do this.
2. Get a program called XBOX Soundtrack Editor (which I have attached to this post because I haven't seen this app yet on XBOX-Hq, and really should be here). As long as you're able to FTP your xbox (softmod or hardmod), this program will do exactly everything you need it to do with regard to manipulating your XBOX Soundtracks. XBOX Soundtrack Editor connects directly to your XBOX Soundtracks folder after you key in the IP address and FTP user/pass (usually xbox:xbox), and allows you to add/delete individual tracks, or even whole soundtracks, and appends to the ST.DB file on the fly.
I have attached the XBOX Soundtrack Editor to this post. Download it, and proceed at your leisure.
Keep in mind that if you want to add music to this folder, you'll need to convert whatever music you plan on using to WMA format, more specifically WMA8, 128k/44100Hz because that's the native format, bitrate and frequency for the XBOX. For that, you'll need a file converter like dbPowerAmp, or something to that effect.
It should also be noted that I've also been able to encode them into WMA9.1 and the tracks played successfully in-game, but that's due to the fact that I can't find a WMA8 encoder that will install on my system (WinXP-Pro x86-64 edition), otherwise I'd be using WMA8 exclusively for my XBOX music.

i forgot i had soundtrack editor. and it is true that really you could just go into the m$dash and delete it from there. i also found this funny pic of bill gates getting hit with a pie.
Thanks everyone! I got it all cleaned up by switching over to the M$ dash (why do people use the money symbol? lol) and deleting them, still wish there was more space but ill be getting a new HDD soon ^^, and that pic is hilarious =P
ohhh i get it, DOWN WITH M$!! lol jk, cause then we wouldnt even have xbox...

Um, I really doubt that all the people at Microsoft are millionares. Most are probably making decent pay, but thats just my guess.
i used to live in seattle, and i knew a few kids parents who worked at the redmond plant, no everyone gets a free ride, there are box packers, quality control, and general assembly line work...not always peaches and cream lol, but yeah, lots of people there do make mucho bucks.

Thanks, forahobby, that program works perfectly. It won't allow you to delete files already on the HD, but it does convert on the spot.
