I have a with no chip. I softmodded it using the Splinter Cell exploit. Everything worked fine. I could only add a game or two to the harddrive and then I was out of space, so I went out and purchased an 80 GB Western Digital Hard Drive. I then downloaded (FlashFXP) and used a "crossover cable" to copy my "C" and my "E" drives to my PC. I then downloaded the "Autoinstaller Deluxe v2.0", then the "Auto Installer Deluxe update v2.02" and finally the "Auto Installer Updater Tool".
I then "unrared" the folders and used the AI Updater Tool to open up a file in the (Autoinstaller Deluxe V2.0 unrared folder) called "Auto-Installer.Deluxe.v2.0.iso". I then "clicked" on the "Select RAR File (update file) to use" and selected "Auto-Installer.Deluxe.v2.02 Update.Xbox-Hq.rar" and then clicked save the modified ISO. Then I used DVD Decrytor and burned the image on a DVD-R at 1X speed.
I then took my XBOX apart, removed the original hard drive and installed the new hard drive. After connecting everything back together, I powered on the XBOX with the Image that I burned using DVD Decryptor and I get the "Flashing Red/Green Light" on the front adn a screen of text written in different languages. It says this:
"Your Xbox requires service. Please call Xbox Customer Support."
I am a complete NOOB to this and feel like I have been reading for the past two days and still no luck. Could someone please help.
Thanks

Not certain being just past a noob myself, but don't you have to unlock the retail hd before you remove it and put in the new one?

So are you saying that I download config magic, put that on a dvd, then put that into the disc drive with the original hard drive in and unlock it with that app, then it will tell me to unplug the original and plug in the new hard drive. I feel like such an idiot at this. I have read so much on this board and still mess up. thanks for the info I am going to try that now.

Sorry for the double post, I dont know how to "edit" my other one.
....Now I put back in the "original Xbox factory hardrive" and I am getting the same message as what I did with the "new 80 gb harddrive" that I am trying to upgrade to.
Here is the message again so you dont have to go back up and read it:
"Your Xbox requires service. Please call Xbox Customer Support."
On the original "Hard drive" there is a white number (13) at the top left of the screen with the above message.
Have I messed up my Xbox? Is there anyway to fix it if I have?
thanks

If your getting the same message with original hd i'm not really sure whats happening,i do know it can be more difficult doing this with a softmod,i'd post in the general forum and hope for a modgod to answer, one way out if it's really mucked up is to get a mod chip i beleive, but wait for an expert to answer, good luck!

If you can still boot with splinter cell, redo the softmod. Reinstall the ms dash on c:. On the AID there's ConfigMagic, use that to read the eeprom. From that you get the password. Once you get the password, hook up the new hdd and lock it using the password you got from the eeprom. Reboot...and start loading games....I mean backing up games.

I am still able to boot up the Splinter Cell that I do the softmod with. I have the exploit saves. Now how do I get them on the Hard Drive. I do not get the menu if there is not a disc in like normal so I can transfer from the memory card to the Hard Drive, instead I get that menu telling me to call Microsoft Customer Service. If I restart the system with the Splinter Cell that I do the softmod with, it starts up like normal game would and there are no saves there. I dont know how to access the memory card on the Controller after the game has already booted up. Thanks everyone for the help so far.

Have tried the same. U have to do the HOT SWAP an build up jo retail HD again! Then install AID 2.02 on it and make a Backup of your Eeprom then use a Xbox HD tool to Lock your 80 GB HD from the Eeprom Backup..
