First of all, I have one of the green Xboxes. It was made on 02/04/04 in China on production line 6.
I don’t really know what version it is though. My kernel version is 1.00.5713.01.
My guess is it’s V1.5.
Can anyone recommend the best no-solder mod-chip for me?

Boy, there are so many solderless claims out there. I have seen so many posts from many forums about the reliability of the solderless chips. You will even find some discussions on this forum.
Xenium, Xecuter 2.3lite, and Chamelon among others all say they have solderless chips. The biggest two complaints that I hear are that some solderless claims are actually 100% true. And, the ones that are the biggest complaint is the chip coming loose. To be fair though, you will find users that love them too.
Xenium chips have a quick solder option, which I guess is an easier soldering method, but harder to take the chip out for repair or replacement. I personally prefer the pin header method, but that's just me.
I know there are some users on this site that have solderless installs, so hang in there for them to chime in. Soldering is not that tough to be honest. I was very much afraid until I got my hands on a pretty good tutorial and just practiced a little bit. I now have the guts not to mention the knowledge to go on my own. Even though I have yet to solder my own chip, I am certainly ready.
As far as knowing exactly what verion xbox you have, there are some resources that will let you know. Hopefully, they are up to date. You can always open it up and check to make sure you don't have the dreaded Xcalibur. Just do a search on the net for what it looks like. There are many pics available.
Good luck finding the right chip for your tastes. I don't know where you are from as I didn't look at your location if one is entered, but if you are in the states and you end up wanting someone else to chip your box just give me a PM. I know a few guys who do exceptional work.

I was a little worried, because it was so new, but I cracked er open and I’ve got the Focus chip.
It’s probably a V1.5 then.
Anyone out there have the Xecutor 2.3B+ ?
Also, Is there any easy fix for the chip coming loose?
Thanks guys!

I am sure there are a lot of the Xectuer's out there. I see that chip everywhere. The only sure way to guarantee no loose chip is soldering. At least to my knowledge. You will get good results from the Xecuter. I personally have the Xenium, as they both have their positives. You will probably find more forum support for the xectuer chips, but the Xenium is pretty popular too. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

I just installed the Xecuter Lite 2.3B+ into my Halo edition Xbox. The chip so far works great, move it around a lot, no problems with it coming loose so far. I also would like to find out if their is some ways to make it a little more permanent.

So you did a solderless install? Very cool. Glad to hear it is working good for you so far. How easy was it to do? I will have to keep that in mind as I have a few friends that want me to mod their box and I am fearing solder splash or motherboard damage. If you have been moving it around and having no issues, then that is a good thing. My machine stays stationary and very seldom do I take it anywhere since I have a few machines, I just take one of the others that aren't chipped. What bios are you running? Can you log on to XBOX Live, and if so what is your procedure. That is one thing that I like about how my Xenium was installed. All I do is select MS Dashboard at the start up screen, then it will load the splash screen and the MS Bios. That way, I can't accidently jump on Live using my hacked bios. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

The install was super easy.. just put the chip in place wiggle it around a little, and the pogo pins pop into the right holes. Then tighten the screw down. Install external switch (which is a no brainer).
The only problem I have had is with the software install, with the chip I'm suppposed to be able to turn off my mod chip and it should boot directly to the MS Bios and dashboard. Instead i just get an hard drive error message. But I can get to the MS dashboad through EVOX. I just need to read a little more and fart around with it some I'm sure.

I’ve got one more n00b question for you guys.
I ordered the solderless Xecuter Lite 2.3B+. Once I get it installed, Do I need do to anything else?
My goal is to be able to play backups off my HDD, or just off burned disks. Do I need to flash bios or anything?

Hey mugofdoom. Yes, you will need to set up bios, evox, and other apps to let you create backups on your HD. You can then FTP them over to your PC to burn to media so you have a physical backup of the game.
We have plenty of tutorials on the site to help you along, not to mention a lot of people to ask questions to. Do you plan on installing a bigger HD? I highly adivise it since the retail drive doesn't have much space. There are some games that would take up the whole drive! I have a 120Gig HD. I have about 28 XBOX games on it, about 140 N64 games, a hundred or so MP3's, and about 300 MameX roms. I still have about 40Gig left to go. I will soon have to consider which games to back up to disk or just FTP the ones I don't play often to my PC so I can keep backing up newer games.

This external switch is what you need to turn mod chip off correct? I have heard about external switches, but every chipped machine I have physically seen and touched as had a Xenium in it so I have not seen an external switch in action. I do however like how easy your chip sounded to install. I guess there are trade offs to consider when comparing each chip against one another. Besides loading MS Dashboard from EvoX, is there any other way to have the ability to select what bios you are booting? I really like how my machine is set up and would like to be able to do that with other chips if possible. I guess installing a switch couldn't be that difficult.
Let me know when you get the MS Dashboard issue sorted. Am very curious to know what happened in case I or anyone else runs into same issue. My wife had some friends over tonight, and now one of them wants me to chip their box. I am leaning toward the solderless method since I don't own the machine. If it was mine, I would just go with the Xenium as I like the performance so far. If I nuke my machine, no sweat. I just don't want to nuke a friends machine. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

hi kevinjonesjr,
Im hoping to help you fix your dashboard error when your new modchip is switched off..
Im sure that you need to get a copy of the latest M$ Dashboard.. The reason being is that the new HALO XBOXES came out with a newer version dashboard then any other xbox.. So upgrade your M$ Dashboard to the latest version and your error will go away.
Im sure 'asmunch' told me about this one.. He said something about how you could put in a NEW XBOX LIVE GAME and upgrade the dashboard or something.

Yes the external switch is super easy to install, plug and play.
As for my dashboard situation, I tried upgrading my M$ Dashboard with Rallisport 2 and it installed fine.... I'm pretty sure the problem is the names of my dashboards onmy C: Drive. I thought you were supposed to be able to name the Evox dashboard, " evox.xbe" and M$ Dashboard, "xboxdash.xbe". If I do it like this it boots fine to the M$ Dash with the mod off and on.... But I want it to boot to Evox when my mod chip is on and M$ when off.
Currently I have the Evox executable named xboxdash.xbe and run the mod on all the time. I have the M$ dash named Msxboxdash just so I can access it from Evox.
I hope all that made a little sense.. Maybe somebody has an idea.

hi kevinjonesjr,
its the bios your running mate!! So you need to download a new bios that supports booting evox.xbe..! Im sure one of the other VIP members here who are running a xecutor can tell you..
Ill contact our xecutor specialist 'Connor2k'. Im sure he will say the same though.. Im certain all you will have to do is reflash your modchip!

Thanks, yes I ended up with that conclusion after reading a little. I did mess up though, and installed my new bios incorrectly. My X2.3B Lite, chip is worthless until I get a programmer. But I have a better handle on things and learned from my mistake. The thing is the in the Xecuter Bios notes it says booting order starts with Evoxdash.xbe first, then others, and lastly the M$ dash.
I emailed team xecuter about it and waiting on reply.. I will post later.. Thanks again for the tips. _________________ Halo SE Xbox
