I've installed a new hdd & I think the original ms dash [chip turned off] might not be reconising it because it's not locked [ i think i got a 05 error code].why and how do you lock the hdd Oh yeah what does it do & how does it effect me {copying to/reading from it etc.}

it only needs to be locked if u intend to go on xbox live, if u have evox installed on the hard drive with and older bios this means u cannot get to the original dashboard with the chip turned off, if u have a newer bios try changing the evox xbe name from xboxdash.xbe to evoxdash.xbe then change ure msxboxdash.xbe back to just xboxdash.xbe and it would work. i would explain this all properly but i am falling asleep at the computer right now so i better go,if no one else fixes/finishes what i said i will correct it later, cheers Laughing

If you have a switch to disable the modchip and are trying to boot the system with the original bios, the hard drive needs to be locked. To do that the easiest way is through Config Magic. If you download the latest version and install it on the xbox, simply go into the program and lock the HD.

This is all you need in your ini file to auto add anithing you put into those folders. Just make sure you put your Config Magic folder into the Applications directory and it should come up fine.

Section "Games"
{
AutoAddItem "f:\games\"
SortAll
}
Section "Apps"
{
AutoAddItem "f:\applications\"
SortAll
}

should I get rid of the line
# item "DVDX" ,"f:\Applications\dvdx\default.xbe"
because
AutoAdditem "f:\Applications\"
is already there,but the sort all is above it as in my second post
I can't play dvds at the moment could that extra line be the problem?

No that wouldn't cause the machine to not play DVD's.
Can you post your entire ini file and I will have a look if there might be another problem.

Wher have you installed Config Magic to? Acording to Your ini file you should have the Config magic folder in the Applications directory on F: drive. Make sure that default.xbe is in the config magic folder and not in another folder.

I installed configmagic to f: apps. yeah deafult. xbe is in the config folder that was the first thing I checked I even tried getting rid of the config magic folder so i could have all the proram files & default.xbe in the root of the apps folder then put it back again after no luck .
I didn't try to change the e: to f: yet ,as in the other post I thought that was strange that dvd player looked in e: apps as I have no apps folder in e:. I finally got config magic running I gave up and burnt it to a disk and booted it from that & locked the drive so now i can boot original bios & dash to play dvds I'll try changinging E to f: in evox ini as I would like to be able to play dvds off of the modchip bios as well, thanks I'm still stumped as to why apps dont auto add tho as all my games do fine I'll try that change on the dvdplayer line E:to F:and see if that fixs things thanks again

changed E: to F: no config magic & no dvds dvds won't play off evox launch dvd menu Evil or Very Mad anyways I managed to load config magic off disk & I can play my kids dvds off of the original ms xbox dash now so I suppose I shouldn't worry about not being able to launch from the apps folder or play dvds from mod chip is there any reason I wouldn't be able to install applications to the games folder and launch them from there?{I just can't leave it alone when theres a challenge lol}

[quote="kuulbots"]I installed configmagic to f: apps.

Edit your ini file to reflect your directory

SortStart
AutoAddItem "f:\Apps\"
SortEnd

That should take care of it.
