Hey man, go to newegg.com and look for OEM style drives, if you need to make sure its a locking one go here http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/. I got a 200 gb maxtor 7200 rpm 8mb cache(model# 6y200P0)I got it for 103.50 with expedited shipping.
ANything over 200 seems to still haven't really hit any price deals yet, but your keyword for looking at these sites for a really cheap hd is OEM, an overstock of HD's for computer companies _________________ XBOX v1.6

Thanks man, i am thinking on a 250 model number 6Y250P0 maxtor hd, with 8mb cache, and 7200 rpm. Something like that will work for EvoX, since i know i have Evox, thanks for the information, because i have to know that it locks for my v 1.0, otherwise i would be screwed.
Thanks again.

I would stay away from maxtor. IMHO
Go with the seagate or WD. I know the WD2500jb is lockable as I have one.
I need something that is compatable with Evox, i don't see any there, just to make sure i am going by that. And here is what i have
1.0 version
250gb, or 300gb hd
Evox, or Avalaunch, preferable EvoX, because i know that works.
and i think i can't remember, but i think Tompson dvd, not that matters, and i am not sure about the bios, but i am sure that doesn't matter too much, becuase i don't have the dvd drive cable back, and is realy getting to me. :{} ahhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

The HD (WD2500JD) I linked to is compatible with evox, x3, configmagic your choice. Works great it's fast quite and runs cool too.
Works on a 1.0 - 1.6 xbox. I put them in all of the time. The WD1600JB (160 gig HD) and WD2000JB (200 gig HD) drives also work well. I have put them all in numerous xboxes over the past couple of months. No problems yet. _________________ Xbox Version 1.1

Maxtor does have an outstanding warranty program though!
Their no questions approach to dishing out RMA numbers is outstanding!
I have gotten two bad HDs in my entire life. Both of been Maxtors...lol. But, I have had no problem in getting the replaced...none whatsoever.
Take a look at warranty before you make your choice.
The Maxtors are loud, affordable, and have an outstanding warranty. You wont' have probs getting evox on any HD really. Evox doesn't care what you put it on. You just need to make sure you buy a lockable drive if you have a machine that has never been on XBL and you want to play on XBL.
If you are not playing on XBL then you shouldn't care if it's lockable.
Samsung makes some very very quiet HDs. They are by far my favorite.

Thats what I was wondering, I thought evox didn't matter the HDD, just the locking was important. _________________ XBOX v1.6

New Egg has them with 3 year warranty, so i won't have to worry about that, 3 years is good, i will see how cheap samsong, but i might go with western digital, just because i have got more people that liked them, but i will check those out too. .

You will NOT go wrong with the Samsung HD.
I configure at least 12 HDs per week. That is by far my most favorite drive, then is the Hitachi....
The Sammy is so friggin quiet. I swear to you, I have the lid off the Xbox, HD exposed, and I cannot hear it run!

I am living on the edge of a nuclear bomb testing facility. There is a lot of EMP at times. Is there a drive available that doesn't reset with earth shattering magnetic waves and can still function AFTER "the second coming of jesus unlike VHS tapes."

Also looking for a bulletproof xbox to complement my new bulletproof car.
JUST BORED AS HELL and I don't want to write that 1500 word paper due tommorow morning. Waiting for the Ganja Guy to make a delivery so I can start typing that paper.

2:11 am, just finished the paper. I hope its coherent. I did lousy on the other one. I was quite inebriated on several levels starting it and extremely hungover finsihing it in the morning. Let's all hope this goes well. I hate summer short term classes, 6 wks of cramming, and I procrastinate long enough already...I enjoy the challenge, I don't get as much out of doing well on something I spent so little time on and something someone else spent SO much time on. It makes me feel all warm inside. Really it feels like belly fire. Definitely belly fire. _________________ XBOX v1.6

OK, a friend bought a 20gb hd, and a mb seperately, he said that he had locked it, but i am not realy sure, and so i just got my dvd power cable back, and i get error 07, and someone told me that if i wanted to reboot the non-original hd i would need the eeproms, and or the RA key to unlock it. Would buying a new hd fix it that locks?
