Strange thing happens!

After i softmodded my friend's Xbox (i have 2 others succesfull softmod on my score without problems) everything works fine at my home.

Both original and back-up games were loading easily.

But when he start the machine at his home ,he's getting an error 21 (Xbox need services) with the tray open or close.

No games won't load anymore.

Looks like there's no dahsboards anymore ( no unleashX and no MS dash) and the worst is no acces to the hacked savegame to re-mod it.

I have made a complete back-up on the E:/ folder of his machine, put back the MS dashboard 5960 and make a save of the softmod but i couldn't acces anything without a functionnal dashboard. Rolling Eyes

I couldn't not FTP it for the same reason.

I have a mod-chipped XBox with AID 2.0 loaded on it but my friend live at an hour of road from here...so i would like to help by phone him to restore his dashboard

Maybe he could do a bootable cd (assuming that will boot?) of Evox to restore the MS dashboard first
and after he's gonna be able to acces to his C:\ back-up from the E:\ folder or just try to FTP SID 3 on it to restore the whole thing.

Any idea how it could happen between my home and his and how i could help him to fix it???

Sad

So original games won't load at all? If thats true then a bootable cd won't load either. You did save his HD key and EEPROM on your PC or something right? And I doubt that from your house to his house that it would stop working. You should ask what he did. There has to be a reason it happened.

No...nothing wont't load except the 21 error code in multi-language.

And it's not possible fro my friend to do anything wrong since he never have acces to any file explorer beacause i removed the boot menu of SID 3 and also avoid booting with bypassing Evox menu to launch DVD (after installation)

Next time maybe i'm better leaving boot the hack dash before lauching DVD...that could let me a chance to acces file explorer to restore softmoding?

The problem is the C:\ back-up was stored on his E:\ folder on the Xbox.

Any other way to acces to the back-up without hotswapping the HD?

I have a chip-modded Xbox...how should it help to recover it?

???

Tx again!

p.s. Sorry for double-posting in your PM box...was a mistake)

No sweat about the PM thing did you get my response I am unsure if people are getting my responses if you could check and let me know. Anyways so it won't load from an original game (not a backup) at all or does he not have any to try? That is the big thing to try first.

Ok...you make me think that the only thing my friend didn't tried is to run an original game...because he forgot his single original...here!

Maybe the MS dashboard is intact after all?Smile

Ok...assuming the best : that i'll have acces to MSdash and the C"\ Back-up sitted in the E:\ partition ...What do i do next to restore install.?

(i have all tools available on my modded xbox and on a memory card)

Now...assuming the worst : No more acces on both dashboard...

Is there a way to restore the machine without hotswapping it?

I hope i could go onto the file explorer to see what's happen... i'd like to learn from my own mistake before doing any reoair or re-install.
(missing something or deleted/ overwrtited files?)

If not...i'm gonna live with that...after everything working again!

Ty for your professionalism!

Wink

Try moving it,

I know it sounds strange but if the box is too close to a cable box.... Just a thought.

Hm, if you can't even play an original game with it there's nothing I can do, except get a modchip.

Thanks DJB...but in case it is (i have to call my friend to confirm if an original will boot or not)...can i do a hotswap with my PC or my modchipped Xbox to use HDDmaker to unlock, prepare and rebuild my friend HD???

Do you know what could happens to result in not booting anything?

This is important to me to know how and why it could happens to not repeat the same mistake on another XBox.

ok if you got a eeprom backup , backup from c and e drive you can fix this.

before doing a hotswap read my tutorials about up upgrading a hd on a softmodded xbox .

i wrote one you can do with a chipped xbox from your friend
and another with a pc and xboxhdm.

if you need help let me know or pm me

ps a hotswap is very dangerous so try my tutorials before starting with hotswap .
hotswapping means removing disk while xbox is running and connecting it to a pc so it's unlocked and can be written on)

cheers

pirrup

You can use a modchipped xbox to prepare a new hdd or hopefully fix an old one. In the Auto-Installer Deluxe manual in Appendix G there is a guide on how to do this, I think Pirrup (the author of this appendix) is making sticky posts about this soon if you're looking for a version on the forums.

I have a back-up of the C:\ drive (bot none for the E:\).Unfortunately,i've stored it ONLY on the E:\ folder on the failed softmod XBox.

(next time i'll do a copy on my PC...promise! Embarassed )

Anyway to recover it?

If not,can i use a back-up from another Xbox with the same version (ex: V.1.6) or the EEprom and HDkey are unique and it won't work anyway?

I've read a lot on hotswapping with a PC but i'd like to have a good tuto to do that between Xbox.

Can you give me the links to hotswap between my chipmodded Xbox and my friend's (failed) softmodded one?

Ty

No they are not interchangable. But try to load a game and take it from there other wise if that won't work hot swap is the thing to do. I think pirrup is going to write a tut on it so that would be the next logical step.

The best from the worst just happens! Laughing

My friend just called to tell me that an original game is booting well !!!

That means i'm gonna be able to restore it(and keep my friend...He!He!He!)

I would like to have your opinions on what could possibily happens.

Any idea?

To me it sounds like i forgot to put back the MS dashoard or something after softmoding...is that make any sense for you?

If not...what could i've done to get this ''messy'' 21 error code ??? Rolling Eyes

I know i have to Run Linux again from my Mechassault original game...but after i would like to see, from the file explorer, what and where something has been missing or corrupted for my own satisfaction ( and also not repeating it)

Now,what i have to do to restore the softmod...Do i have to reformat and reinstall everything or just going to fix a point in the installation??

Thanks both for helping!

You don't have to reinstall the msdash. Something just got corrupted or erased no biggie. Glad everything worked out.
