So after my successful softmod of my Xbox my cow-orker decided he was going to mod his... and lets just say he was less than successful.
I am going to try and recover it for him at work today, he brought it in but before I do I just want to run my plan of attack through you guys to verify that I am not wasting my time.
He somehow managed to trash his dashboard, not sure exactly how he did that, but he can put a disc in the box and have it boot up fine into a game, but when he tries to boot up without a disc it gives him the Error 21(? He doesn't remember of course).
So since he can not copy save files to his HD (no dashboard) and we know that we can't boot SID from a memory card, I am stuck pulling the hard drive out. Now if I understand correctly the hard drive will be locked if I just pull it out of Xbox, BUT if I turn the Xbox on and let it boot up, that should unlock the hard drive. Then without turning the Xbox off, if I yank out the hard drive, use the image I made for Xboxhdm 1.9 when I softmodded mine boot the HD up in that I should be able to basically restore all of my files on to his drive. Then I just plug the hard drive BACK into the Xbox and shut the Xbox down and in theory, that should relock the hard drive. Then he should be able to just power it back up and everything will work..... right?
If I understand correctly this should work, but I am a bit inexpereienced with this process and maybe I am headed in the wrong direction. Can anyone chime in and give me confirmation that this will work?

yea had that issue also on a xbox , restore ms dash (last)
reinstall softmod
You should have a backup of your C:\ drive somewhere (including HDDKey,EEprom and default xbe)before doing any mod...
...if not you'll have to find it somewhere ''at usual places''!
Good Luck!

As long as you have the same HD that you had when you first went on XBL then you can cold boot and goto xbl no problem from what I understand. But to answer your question if you did a msbackup before you did any softmod to your xbox then you can goto the option restore msdash. If not you are out of luck. Thats if you did one. Thats why if anyone is doing a mod you should ALWAYS do a backup. _________________

Cold boot would be load the xbox with the game. Or another way to say it. Put the game in restart with the game in. That way it doesn't load the the hacked dash. Now as for your code 13 is this after you restored your ms backup? Or when you try to load the ms dash from your hacked dash? _________________
