Posted: Sat Apr 23, 2005 6:00 am Post subject: Successfully softmodded but then did some stupidness
Hi there!! this is my first post here...and i have read and used many of the tutorials here...good job to all the peeps that keep this site running!!!
OK now to my problem...I just softmodded my xbox recently...it worked like a charm! i used xboxhdm from ldots and made the bootable cd...hotswapped and ran thru the whole thing with no problems...
ok so then i had evox as my dash...but it came incomplete...it didnt come with an ftp server and other things..so i got the auto installer which has almost everything anybody could ask for! (props to them!!) now i decided...since i had a choice on dashboards...i wanted to do a clean start...using auto installer...i formatted my retail HD and installed avalaunch and the M$ dash...took out the dvd and rebooted my xbox...now it booted to the M$ dash!! this is now my problem...i cant seem to get out of it...so i decided to clean the HD again and try to do the soft mod again using hotswapping and ldots cd...but now it doesnt detect the HD?? i cant seem to do anything about it...i tried hotswapping many many times! and still no luck...so i tried putting my pc dvd drive and connecting it to my xbox so that i could boot the auto installer dvd...but my xbox didnt 'recognize the media' even tho i put an original game into the xbox drive and put the auto installer in the pc drive...
this is where i am stuck now...i have run out of ideas....my original games work perfectly...but obviously the my 'backup' games 'cant be recognized' so please...if there is any help out there? any help would be greatly appreciated!! and ideas? any help at all would be great!! thanks in advance!! and keep up the good work guys!!!

I did try the pc dvd drive...i said it on my story.....any thing else? mem card game exploit perhaps?

So are you unable to get back to the M$ dash or is the hard drive not working on the Xbox at all?
Also the next time that you install the dashboard change your order around. Install the M$ dash then Avalaunch. From your post it looks like you must have overwritten the mod dash. As stated earlier I am confused as to whether you are able to get anything at all from the new harddrive on the xbox. Please clarify.

wassup...thanks for the replies!! ok about my xbox...everything works fine still...i did softmod my xbox successfully, and wanted to remove a few things like a few extra dashboards..my xbox had a lot of crap on it that i wanted to remove...
my xbox still works perfectly...it seems like its retail again...but now when i try to hotswap, xboxhdm doesnt detect the xbox HD anymore...im doing everything exactly the way i did it the first time...but when i put original games, it still works...everything is like retail...so i hope this will clear up some confusion? any help would be great!!!!

Okay since I have the relative IQ of a gnat I have another question. Why are you still hotswapping? Didn't you say that the hard drive is funtioning like a stock drive? If your upgraded drive is functioning like a stock drive then that's a good sign. The drives that are working as stock drives on the xbox shouldn't be detected since they are locked (well mine does show the model and serial number, but beyond that they're not able to be used).
Assuming that the upgraded drive works on your xbox as a stock drive then you should just reinstall the softmod (on the upgraded stock drive) and continue business as usual. I've read lots warnings against hotswapping. Each time is a dangerous drug that might kill the drive. I understand that it makes you feel good, but think about the life of your poor hard drive that could be needlessly snuffed out.
