Just got a premod with SmartXX and a 250 GB HD. Now I'd like to get XBox Linux working. Probably not a difficult process since It is on the SmartXX CD, but I want to make sure I do this right and I haven't been able to find a step by step tutorial on this.
In Evox, I can access the Linux main menu where I have four options: FatX, HDA and Flash don't appear to be active (nothing happens when I select them). If I select Linux DVD it asks me to insert a CD. I am guessing that I just need to insert the SmartXX CD with Linux and that will get me started. But I want to be sure before I do it.
Guess I'm a bit nervous that I am going to mess something up. I usually like to have some instuctions when I am installing something that I don't fully understand yet. So if anybody has any advice or links to a good website on setting up XBox Linux, please let me know.
Thanks

hi skoomakhajiit,
I havent tried installing linux for atleast 12 months now but im sure you will have to sacrifice a partition on your XBOX HDD (say f:\) and devote it to linux or you have to run LINUX from a dvd-r..
Well thats how i remember it. Its probably a little different now but i bet the basics are the same.
Why not go to the official xbox-linux website and read the faqa and install info.. Im sure they are always up to date..
anyway, ill also shoot DJB a email so he can reply with any other suggestions.. I know he has run linux but it has been quite a while for him too.
you dont need to dedicate an entire partion to the use of this distro of linux either so thatsone good thing... its not the best distro of linux but it is a very good start.

I don't know what version that is at all.
If you want to experiment with Linux, try the Gentoox version which you can FTP over to your xbox, preventing any chance of stuffing it up with installing via cd.
It's currently down at this time but hopefully should be back up soon.
Once you've gone to their downloads section and downloaded Gentoox Home Edition (the one I recommend) go to either their FAQ or Tutorial section, and it tells you how to FTP Gentoox to your Xbox, and how to set up Evox so you can run it from your dashboard.
Hope that helps...
