hello folks newbie here from nova scotia canada saying hi to all u folks in this great sight.i got a few questions im new at this so please be patient my sons xbox is about 14 months old nothing has ever been dont to it and he wants it modded what is the best way for me to go softmod or chip and which way is the easiest cause im not great with computers and he would like to play burnt games we have a dvd burner would a soft mod allow him to play burnt games and if not roughly how many games would he be able to save on his hard drive with a softmod which is easier to do a softmod or chip any help is greatly appreciated thanks

In my opinion, I would go with a solderless chip like the Xenium Ice or spice. Very easy to install. Im not sure on this but you only get one try at a softmod ......

ok.. Well its really up to you what you want to do.. Modchip or Softmod?!?!?.. If you think you will be able to install a soldierless modchip ok then i definately suggest go for the modchip.. You will have less hassles in the future too once you get a chip installed.
Or,
if you want you could install a softmod which will allow you to boot backups, emulators and media players etc on your xbox (just like a modchip) but occassionally the softmod (files on the xbox hdd) get corrupted.. Thats why i like a modchip.. Even if the xbox hdd files become corrupt you can still boot a AUTO INSTALLER (http://www.aid.xbox-hq.com) and it will fix it for you straight away by installing/formating and copying everything needed.
If you have a softmod and start getting errors you have to re-softmod the machine or fit a modchip and use the AIDeluxe to fix the errors..
See what i mean.?!?! Anyway, im no softmod expert but they seem to run fine most of the time.. I will be trying this myself shortly to test so i can support others..
At the moment though, i still only suggest modchips.
another thing:
A modchip only allows your xbox to boot backups etc.. So really it doesnt matter which modchip you get.. They will all do a similar job.
well since ur xbox is 14 months old id go with the modchip no warrenty lol....
But with a softmod u can do everything a modchip can do... except play xbox live etc..... but theres also alternates like Kai or XBC.....
But heres the catch softmod u need 1 of the following games
Splinter cell the frist one...... MechAssult... or 007.......but all these games have to be the Original COPY and not that platinum BS
And ull ned a Action replay memory card..... (Action replay is around 47$ at futuresho.... Xenium ice is around 70$)
So if u have none of the items.....or cant get ur hand on them go with the Modchip... if u have access to them softmod it....
Also if urplaning to add a larger hard drive id get the Modxhip If u dont really like Computers its pain to add a HDD without a chip

ps ive done alot of softmodding never had a problem i use the Splinter cell methode (i like it better then others because u cant rush the install u cant boot the hack from the memory card which is where most ppl screw up....like error 12-16-21... but with SC u need the files on hdd so it boots and if u get those errors u just need to pop in the game and it will boot up and fix the prob just like a chip )

once u install the chip ull need to flash it with a hack bios then from there all u need is the Aid.... it will do the rest like install hack dashbord... and appz.....
