Are you trying to make this compatable with Action Replay?
If so you have to install the proper drive in order for AR to see your device. Here is a little thing I wrote up about making my USB key usable with AR. I believe that it should work for you. And yes I did read that you are not using a USB key.
I think section e) is what will tell you how to detect your usb device as a memory card in AR. Hope it helps.
-----------------------------------------------------
These instructions will get you to the point of
doing the actual Softmod install using Softmod
Installer Deluxe 2.0. These instructions tell how
to setup and use a USB Key instead of a memory card
or Action replay unit. I am not sure that this
is for the newest of newbies, but should get you going.
To put things into perspective, I got my first XBOX
a few weeks ago and Read and Searched a few forums for
all of these answers.
Apps Needed and assuming they are all unzipped and installed
- Softmod Installer Deluxe 2.0 (This is a package)
- USBVIEW
- Action Replay 1.05 (Can use a newer version)
- Original Copy (not a backup) of Splinter Cell, MechAssault or 007 Agent Under Fire
- Original Copy (not a backup) of a recent game with XBOX Live support that will update your dash to 5960
Hardware Needed
- an XBOX
- USB Key that is compatable with Action Replay and XBOX
- USB to XBOX Cable - There are tutorials on how to make this on the usual sites
Steps
-----------------------------------------------------------
a) Update your MS Dashboard to 5960 (if you don't have it)
-----------------------------------------------------------
- Put your newish XBOX Live supported game into your XBOX and power up
- Your XBOX will install the 5960 Dashboard if you don't have it
- There are other mothods but this is the easiest
-----------------------------
b) USB Key Memory Card setup
-----------------------------
- Plugin your USB key into the USB to XBOX Cable
- Plug the cable into the XBOX
- Power on the XBOX without a game in the drive
- Go to the Game Saves Memory screen
- If your USB key is compatable it should be recongnized as a Memory Card
- Using the joystick Select your USB Key Memory Card
- Erase the USB Key Memory Card when prompted. This will format it to be compatable with XBOX
- After it has been formatted unplug and remove.
--------------------------------
c) Action Replay and Game Saves
--------------------------------
- Plug your USB Key into your computer
- Do not format it if asked to do so. If you do format it, go back and erase on the XBOX again
- Open Action Replay Software
- Go to the folder where you unzipped the Softmod Installer Deluxe 2.0
- Drag and drop the game save/saves (for whichever game you will be using) into the middle column in Action Replay
- Now drag the game save from the middle column to the left hand column which is your Memory Card
* If Action Replay does not recognize your USB Key please follow the instructions in "e) USBVIEW" section further down
* If you have already tried step e) a few times, and it still does not work, then you should probably try a different USB Key.
--------
d) XBOX
--------
- Plugin the USB Key back into the USB to XBOX Cable
- Power on your XBOX
- Go to the Memory Screen
- Select your Memory Card
- Select the game save/saves and copy it/them to the harddrive of your XBOX
You are now ready
-----------
e) USBVIEW
-----------
This section is for if Action Replay does not recognize your USB Key.
However, if you do this and AR still doesn't recognize your USB Key, I suggest trying
a different key.
- Plug your USB Key into your computer
- Run USBVIEW.exe
- In the left column select your USB Key
- In the right hand column look for something like
idVendor: 0x045E
idProduct: 0x0040
The numbers will probably be different. Write down the characters located to
the right of the "x".
- Browse to the folder where Action Replay is installed and open the Drivers folder
- Open xbreader.inf in Notepad
- Locate the [_Devices] section in xbreader.inf file
- You will see 3 or 4 lines that look similar to this
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_04E8&PID_0100
- You are going to edited the first line in the section
- Replace the characters after the VID_ with the idVendor characters you wrote down
- Replace the characters after the PID_ with the idProduct characters you wrote down
- Save the xbreader.inf with these changes
- Open your Windows Device manager (Usually located in the Control Panel)
- Scroll to the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" section and click the + symbol
- Right Click on the "USB Mass Storage Device" and select "Update Driver" from the menu
- The "Hardware Update Wizard" will start. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click "Next"
- On the next screen check the "Don't Search. I will choose the driver to install" and click "Next"
- Click the "Have Disk" button and browse to the Drivers folder in the Action Replay folder then click "Open"
- Click the "OK" Button
- Windows will install the Action Replay XBOX Driver
- When this is finished go back to step c)
You are now ready to follow the instructions in the Softmod Installer Deluxe 2.0 Readme file.
