It sounds to mee that it's an issue of connectivity. The solderless chip can easily come off the solderless adapter. Either make sure that you have a good connection with the adapter or go for a pin header install. That does require a little bit of soldering but nothing that even someone who has never done it before can accomplish.

I did the same thing. Right now I have the solderless X3 installed and it works but just last night I got sick of it coming loose so I did a pin header install. I'd never soldered anything before, not since 8th grade, and it works great.

A flash may help but your best bet would probably be to go with a pin header install. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions, just PM me.

I agree...

Be careful when moving your solderless adapter around though I have seen so many people scratching a trace or two while doing so.

Also, the Xenium Ice has been a pretty unstable chip the last few months. I am now seeing a pretty high fail rate, as far as I'm concerned 4 chips in two months is high when I only install 20-30 chips per month (15 of those being Xeniums)

jiggysmb had the same issue. Sometimes his would work, others it wouldn't. Eventually, he ended up just getting the three power cycles and frag. The thing was, I installed his chip via pin header so it wasn't alignment. The chip wouldn't even go into recovery. I replaced the chip with a SmartXX and it's all better now. Bmmods RMA'd the chip for me.

If you really don't want to try soldering a pin header in place to rule out some possibilities just be careful when aligning it.

Keep us posted.
