after the success of modding my system, my freind brought his over, and i attempted to soft mod it. i used the morten's audio hack, MA game save, and UXE.i got to the pheonix bios, deleted drive c and replaced it with the contents from folder: "uxe-updatefonts71" which contained fonts, and xboxdash.xbe.i rebooted the xbox and got an evox dash.then i ran the auto installer 1.0, not slayer's, attempted to install all the programs.i tried to open up xbmc, i get a black screen with red letters saying error, no skins found or something like that.so i rebooted the xbox, got error 21.i tried to load mechassault, after a few tries it loads up, but the linux save is not there.when i turn on the xbox with no game, i get error 21.so how can i fix this problem, i have the xbox hard drive backed up on my computer, done right after i first got the phoenix bios through mech assault, but how can i fix the hard drive to allow me to start over.any help would be great.

Not necessarily true. You can download HDDriver and you can create a .ISO disc with the original dashboard. I've done a couple softmod's that were bad when I was first learning and I was able to hotswap the Xbox HD with my computer and fix it by copying the necessary files from the disc or in worst case scenerio I cloned the bad HD with a good XBox HD and then locked it with the proper HDD lock password. Only time I've ever ran into a permanent softmod meltdown is when I locked a HD without the proper code and didn't have the EEProm to unlock it. Once that was done then I had to put a modchip in. If you can't find the answer in the tutorials or forum rooms just shoot me an email and I'll try and help you out bobbrownik.

the thing is it hasnt worked for a lot of people , and i really wouldnt

LOL. So true. Now that I look back at it I do remember wanting to pull my hair out trying to get a couple of those bad mods to work. I'm stationed here in Okinawa, Japan and so I suffer to fix mistakes since it takes a good 3 weeks to receive modchips when I'm out. The waiting kills me most of the time. Just wanted to throw out another solution for him. I should also mention that it is very time consuming. To clone a HD for me with a 1.6 processor on 512M of ram took about 2 and a half hours just to clone the drive and hope it worked. If it didn't it was another 2 and a half hours to try it another way. LOL. It says to sit back a drink a beer but I'd pass out way before it completed.

The xbox HD maker worked fine for me but if that person don't know his/her HD lock/unlock code then they're screwed! So make sure you find out what your HD password is before you try it so you can recover it with Xbox HD maker (to lock and unlock sometime is finicky what worked for me is to hook it up on the primary - slave to lock/unlock drive reboot) . Another word of advice make sure the gamesave hack IS ON THE HD not on the memory card. And make sure the hack abitlity has ftp built in the gamesave hack. If your using the auto installer make sure you have another gamesave hack for Just the use for ftp and make sure it's habbi signed with samesave hack so it wouldn't give you the error screen.
So the only thing you "tonespace" should do is get your friend another xbox or modchip! Please don't mod unless your ready to face the concinquenses (Sp?). Personally I Fucked up 2 of mine when the softmod was just starting in its infincy but now I have no problem softmodding any version I came in contact with. If you want to practice then practice it on yours and yours only! Eventually you'll learn !) You can fry the xbox very well, 2) Learn what to do and not to do, 3)Learn that You personaly can't softmod so got a modchip instead (You'll need practice on that too and geting the right bios and to flash it) 4)Give up after spending over who knows what amout for used/new xbox and curse yourself for attempting! (Happened to my friend and on his last xbox I felt pitty on his poor pithetic all knowing soul and softmodded it for him....and laughed!)
Just remember, don't think that you can softmod an xbox with just the files that people upload (there's lots of bad ones out there to) it takes many trial and error (remember..backups backups) to see what the hack does and can't do so YOU'LL know what you're capable of and read up and research and research some more!
My first xbox gone bad, reason - I was messing around the Motherboard (Not modchip) to see the innerds shocked the MB and boom no longer working. My 2nd xbox gone wrong - Used XBMP (not XMBC) to change the video setting from full screen to widescreen then it froze and I restarted and no longer gave me anything on the screen and saw red lights flashing before my eyes! Cursed at myself for not reading the authors readme file stating "This is a beta version don't change the video setting" then I cried myself to sleep. But I always back up my HD and the eprram and get my HD password and that saved me many many many times. Since then I modded over 50 of my friends xboxes even the ones that knows how since I know how to do it better and with understanding.
So don't be discouraged about your little mixups. Eventually people WILL read your misfortune and learn from it, so don't think this was all for nothing since you described what kind of hack it was and then people might stay away from that "perticular hack".
P.S I'm not laughing at you or dissing you, I am truly emphithying with you and I truly hope that your friendship didn't break over this.

hey people, thanks for the replies.from what everyone had to say i gathered i need the following:
hdd driver
the hd backup including the eeprom
a possible transfer of my modchip into my friends xbox
i backed up the hard drive as soon as i had ftp access, but i can't find the eeprom in the contents of the hard drive.all i could find that i would think is relative to the password was a file called"password verify.xip"
now i'm wondering is everything messed up without the eeprom, or does the password verify file provide help.
and if, i can't do anything with the hdd driver, what would putting my mod chip in my friend's system do?i have a zenium ice, exrcuter bios, slayer's auto install, ect.can i just turn the chip off put it in my friends box(if it has any significance), then when i'm done return the chip to mine.basically would transfering the chip be transfering the chip and no info stored on it, or does it, the chip itself contain information, bios, ect.specific to my xbox?
