What are the big differances in modding and or softmodding your system?
They seem that they can do just about all the same things.

Hi moby,
The thing i noticed most with softmodding is the constant problems.
If you accidently rename a file or copy something in the wrong spot you will have to get a modchip to fix your errors.
Heaps of guys always update their dashboads with soft mods and then get e13 errors or something like that.. what a drama.
If you get a E13 error with your softmod you cant boot BACKUPS anymore.. thats the problem i have found!
Atleast with a modchip even if you get a error you can still ftp in and fix it or boot a backup/AI..

You shouldn't be able to stuff a softmod so badly that an original game won't load, but I've seen it happen several times, not personally though. If you don't have one of the games to do a softmod, nor do you have an action replay, or controller to pc + a mem card. Then the cost of a softmod vs a hardmod are about the same.
The cons of a softmod are the ability to stuff it so easily, the other is the jumping through hoops just to upgrade anything, bios, hard drive, dashboard, etc.
I don't have a modchip, only running softmods so I can't really tell you the pros and cons, but in my opinion a few cons would be having to open your box, the possibility of having to solder (but most have solderless now) and the openning is required if you want to get a big hard drive, so those are really moot points. _________________
