Now I know next to nothing about soft mod units but if it involves changing the bios at all so that it's not 100% M$ dashboard, I would say that the chances of being detected and banned amount to 100% as well. Sad

I think the results are inconclusive, but my vote is for yes, you can.

Halo 2 seems to be banning the hell out of people. Some people think it's because modded systems (even softmods) that had original HDDs when they first went online, got new HDDs and were banned.

I think it's also a possibility that the service looks for unauthorized files on the HDD, which means you could get banned even if you're using an original HDD with the chip turned off.

The only foolproof method I can think of for not getting banned would be to only go online with the original HDD active, and to keep all unauthorized files on a second HDD.

I could be wrong, though.

Now wait. During the softmod process, doesn't one need to install a new bios? Otherwise what's the point? I've heard people that softmod one box and have a second box to play XBL. What would be the need to do so if one wasn't changing out the bios?

the soft mod method definitely does run a modified bios. The bios is placed on the hard drive and accessed from there.

One would definitely be banned while using a soft mod.

The bios is placed on the hard drive and isn't replaced in the eeprom? Interesting, yes I could see why a ban would take place. Is that why I read of these boot disks? It forces the box to look to the hard drive rather than the eeprom for the bios Question

personally i would just play on xlink Kai. I reckon softomod would def get you banned, the older xbox's allow you to place two bios's on the eeprom with a switch, but you still have th eprobs of files on the HD.

An xtender case would work tho i reckon, two hard drives, one standard, one modded, switch between
em etc

The Xtender might work, but I have a doubt. I was reading about how to install the extender and it said something about soldering. Does anyone knows if the soldering has anything to do with the bios?

Not as far as I know, it's just a big case with a switch, i think the soldering is for the activity lights on the front, not 100% sure tho
