I just bought a brand new crystal xbox today and I want to soft mod it, i've been looking at details of how to do it and I think i can make the action reply from a usb memory stick, and I should be able to get hold of one of the games so hopefully from there it's pretty simple yes? but it does seem like a lot of hassel and i was wondering why i could just fnd someone else with a newly modded xbox, unlock their hdd and connect to a PC, make an exact image of the hdd using say norton ghost and hot swap my hdd and copy that image onto my hdd and then load back into xbox and voila one modded xbox. but surely it can't be done or it would have, if it could surely you could compress that image and torrent it and anyone could download it and easily mod their xboxes so umm can you tel me the problem with my logic before it drives me nuts thanx.

Really, the only reason you couldn't just ghost someones hard drive over is they may have a MS dash that isn't compatible with your kernel. If it is another brand new crystal, it should work as long as the one you are copying from is softmodded, not hard modded. As far as I know the hddkey is stored not on the harddrive, but on the circuitry of the hard drive. So a ghost shouldn't over write this. That would be my only fear really. Personally I would just buy an extra controller breakout, make the usb adapter, and then plug in your usb stick. I haven't ever used this method so I really can't give support for it. but from my understanding, you attach it to the xbox, then tell it to format. Then you install Action Replay from www.codejunkies.com and when you plug the usbstick into the pc, direct it to the install folder for the AR to load drivers for the stick. Then transfer game saves just like you normally would. _________________
