I soft modded my xbox using UDE2

Xbox: Halo Edition v1.6
Kernel: 5838
Game: Mechassault
Dash: EvolutionX build 3935
Fonts: bert-5838-01.xtf, ernie.xtf
Guide used: UDE2 Guide To Kernels 3944 - 5838 | Guide V3.5
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=246951&st=0

Every thing works fine but the Network card. I've tried a patch cable through a router, I've used a crossover cable straight to my pc, I can't even system link 2 xboxs together. The light on the xbox network card turns on, as if it were working, but no information seems to go through. I know how to set up a network and the ip's for the xbox and a pc, I use to ftp to my xbox before the softmod, using the mechassault game save, So we can rule out the ip's and the network setting being the problem. I've also tried using the game save, but that doesn't work. Can any one help me?

Thanks

Have you checked your evox.ini file to make sure that the IP address is still the same that you are used to? You can also go into the Settings menu and check out what IP address you have, and also change it to match your pc. Most routers seem to go on the 192.168.1.xxx ip range. where most evox.ini files assume the 192.168.0.xxx ip range.

As far as system link games not working, that actually sounds more like a hardware problem than a software. I haven't ever heard of something going wrong just by installing an exploit. I guess anything is possible, but you are getting the lights showing connection. So it just seems like the IP is wrong.

Thanks for the reply, but I've already checked that. I've set up the router to forward the ip's on port 21 and everything. I've also, used a crossover cable on my pc to xbox with no router and set the static ip on my comp to 192.168.0.1 and the xbox to 192.168.0.2 I've use several ip's just to make sure with no results.

Hi,

So what has changed since you started having the problem??

If you network card activity lights are lighting up then it is definately working mate.. TURN OFF ALL YOUR FIREWALLS! Especially WINDOWS XP FIREWALL and try again.

If it still doesnt work what i would do is this:

1. Get a AUTOINSTALLER with FTP support on DVD-R/CDRW (.iso file)
(e.g. XBOXHQ AUTOINSTALLER)
2. Burn the AUTOINSTALLER to CDRW/DVD-R and boot in xbox
3. Once it boots it will give your xobx a ip address.. Probably 192.168.0.2 or 192.168.0.100.. It will display the ip on the screen for you!
4. Give your HOMEPC a network address of 192.168.0.1 or anything in the same range.
5. Now try and ping your xbox from your pc using 'commmand prompt'
6. Do this:
Click 'Start Menu' and choose 'run'
Type 'command' or 'cmd' then press enter
Now type 'ping 192.168.0.2' where the ip is your xbox and press 'enter'.

You should get a reply like this:
Code:
Pinging 192.168.0.3 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 192.168.0.3: bytes=32 time=4ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.0.3: bytes=32 time=3ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.0.3: bytes=32 time=3ms TTL=64

Ping statistics for 192.168.0.3:
    Packets: Sent = 3, Received = 3, Lost = 0 (0% lo
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 3ms, Maximum = 4ms, Average = 3ms

If you get timed out then you need to change your network cable and try again..

btw.. If you using a router the activity light should be on with it too.. If it is then you know it is a PC config problem or corrupt files on your xbox dashboard and NOT THE NETWORK CARD!

Ok, I've done the auto installer with ftp suport, Slayer 2.6, Xboxhq auto installer 1.3 Final and made my own, still nothing, should I just use an auto exploit for mech assalt one that in stalls the exploit for me? If so should I restore my C drive to the origanl state from a back up before hand?

Hi,

It must be something defanately wrong with the SOFTMOD installation..
Once you foramt and partition using any AUTOINSTALLER it removes everything from the HDD..

So,... Im guessing the softmod isnt allowing you to do anything..

If you fit a modchip i can help you to no end mate but unfortunately with softmodding i have no experience at all!

sorry i could help you more.

hopefully 'sjohn' will come to the rescure for you!
He is our softmod admin!

cheers,

Fpr best resi;ts please do restore a backup of c: and possibly e: you won't have to worry about the folders games and apps. The softmod installer doesn't do anything to these folders. The newest softmod installer has UXE which is even more advanced than ude2. So this would hopefully work. Does evox ever show an IP? or is it always 0.0.0.0? I still say it sounds like a pc config problem. Do you by anychance have a different computer with a network card to try it with?

ok the ip does show up when set to static ip in EvolutionX and everything is connected. I've tried it on 3 different computers and on my computer i have 2 network cards. So I really don't think it's a pc config problem. I've also put my hard drive on a chipped xbox and everything works fine. The chipped xbox is not mine so i have limited access to it. The thing is i didn't have any problems with the network card before I softmodded my xbox.
