i have a xecuter 3 chip on the way and i am trying to gather as much information as i can before i install it. i have zero networking skills and i am confused on how to network the xbox to my laptop. because of the rural area that i live in i have no acess to cable/dsl so a crossover cable was the most cost effective solution for me. i have the xecuter 3 bios and evolutionx 3935 files. what is the step by step procedure for networking the xbox to my laptop (keeping in mind that i know nothing of ip settings and what not) thank you for any help.

hi mate and welcome to xbox-hq..
Im glad you are smart enough to look for informatin about your modchip before you try to fit it.. Very nice.. Not like most.. They just jump in without doing any research and hit a BRICK WALL!!
Just some quick tips for your installation:
1. Install the modchip
2. Get a Hacked Bios (download)
3. Flash your modchip with the correct bios to suit your modchip
(this hacked bios will allow your xbox to boot backups and other stuff)
4. Now download the XBOXHQ AUTOINSTALLER
5. Unzip the XBOXHQ AI and get the .iso file from inside
6. Burn the .iso file to DVD-R/CDRW and boot in your xbox
7. A Main menu will come up and let you choose what to install using your xbox joystick.. It can install dashboards, apps like XBMC and many other cool utils.
JUST REMEMBER:
You must flash your bios before you can boot any AUTO INSTALLER, BACKUPS or anything really.
NETWORKING:
Network your Laptop OR PC to the xbox is very simple.
Basically all you have to do is find out what IP ADDRESS and SUBNET your PC/Laptop has by doing whats called a 'ipconfig /all'.. I have written a tutorial to help you with this here:
Basically once you get your pc ip address you can setup your XBOX IP address using your xbox joystick once you have installed YOUR EVOX DASHBOARD or other dashboard.
YOU MUST INSTALL A HACKED DASHBOARD like evox, avalaunch etc etc before you will be able to gain access to your xbox via FTP.
