Anyway i have an original xbox that has the evox m8 plus bios it was manifactured 2005 08 07 (possible 1.6b) Any way to test a bios without flashing it and risking making my xbocx a paperweight?

Welcome.

What exactly do you mean by: ".....test the BIOS"?

If the current BIOS is working OK you're good to go for most thing you might want to do.

The fact the Xbox has a Evox M8+ type BIOS means it is either chipped or TSOPed and your first job would best be to find out which and if it is a chip what type.

Next check that your DVD drive is working OK with burned installer discs , AID, HeXEn or others - there's plenty of choice even now.

DVD-R is the only universally Xbox DVD drive compatible media, preferably burned with ImgBurn at lowest supported speed. This is the standard recommendation as it is known to work reliably. If it doesn't then either the disc is bad or the DVD drive is failing, most typically the laser.

If your disc drive is good then advice from this point will be different from that if it is not.

Here you go… https://www.xbox-hq.com/html/modules.php?name=Xbox_Homebrew&op=view&gid=277&title=BiosChecker

Burn this to a disc and insert then reboot to check your current bios.

BIOSChecker is unlikely to include whatever BIOS he is using if it has been customised in any way. The best it will do is give an indication if it is a TSOP or what size BIOS it is, determined by Xbox version or chip type.

For useful information better to use the EVTool (a PC Xbox BIOS modding tool) which works with Evox M8+ BIOS and will provide the information about what customisations, if any, are being used/supported by the current BIOS.

As said, finding out whether it is is chipped or TSPOed should be the first priority.
