Ok so to let you guys know I have a un-modified Original Xbox, a private at home network, and a laptop. I do not have the money to buy anything ells and I do not wish to open or damage the console.
With this said is there a way I can Softmod my Xbox with what I have and if so can I get detailed instructions step by step on how to do this.
My goal is to Softmod the console so I can use FTP to install Emulators and games for my two boys to play.
I am new here and I have researched this online but the only ways I have found are to open the xbox and use error code 12 to hot swap the HDD to a Desktop PC to transfer files or use a softmod kit and a game like 007 or alternatively use a 512-2gig 2.0 usb flash drive with mod software.
None of these options are going to work for me. Unless I can use a burned ISO of the game and a USB flash drive of 8gigs because this is what I have to work with.
Please help me... I'm begging lol.

The simplest way to softmod is by using a game save exploit.
The only hassles are finding a Xbox friendly 4GiB or less flash drive and an original copy of one of the exploitable games.
Plenty of info out there about the details of how to do it if you Google.
You do not want to open the Xbox but that means you're going to be using the retail HDD still and there's not a lot of space left on that, typically post softmod under 5GB.
Enough for just emulators/ROMs but most people find it limiting.
There;s also the possibility of you actually needing to open the Xbox sometime in the foreseeable future to replace dodgy capacitors and deal with ageing DVD drives. Both are unfortunately becoming more and more common now as the Xbox gets older.
If you know that IS going to happen then you're just denying yourself the usefulness of fitting a larger HDD for no good reason.

Like stated above i don't have the money for a new HDD or the sata adaptor.
The HDD in it will have to work for now. I do belive i have the older revision of the xbox so i might have to open it just to remove the clock capacitor.

In my experience with clock capacitor issues it is a question of how many hours/days the Xbox has been used not its actual age.
I'm also of the belief that if the Xbox was not left plugged in, maintaining the time/date, the clock cap will have aged far less than a Xbox that was left plugged in 24/7.
If money really is tight and you can't afford an original copy of an exploitable game and a suitable flash drive then using Xbox HDD Maker (XBHDM) USB may be your best bet.
But it will involve hot swapping (an unreliable dark art) and that brings with it the danger of messing up the HDD resulting in it not booting.
