ok i am getting my xbox within a week, hopefully sooner, anyways could anyone tell me what the advantages of soft mod over regular mod other then not having to open box/ soilder. Also iam thinking of following the KevinRose (from the screensavers) on how to softmod your xbox., any opnions?
finally:
1) does softmod allow you to play burnt dvds say like the ones you get at some Asian stores?
2) will it work on a V1.6 box?
3) is it hard, saw the video from tech tv and it didn't seem that hard, but could be wrong.
anyways thanks again

hi raven007,
I just noticed you are getting support in the VIP Ticket Section so we really dont need to reply here too.

Try *BUMP* (bumping) your topics if nobody replies in a day or so.
That way they will become active again!
anyway, keep chatting with sjohn and you will be fine!

The advantages of softmodding are:
NO warranty void as long as you are able to clean up what you did to the hard drive.
No openning of the box, kind of goes along with above.
Absolutely no soldering required.
No tools required (as in torx head screw drivers)
Installer makes it incredily simple to do.
Disadvantages:
Possible to mess up if the dashboard is replaced (but you can always reinstall).
Difficult to replace stock hard drive.
Lack of cool factor (can't brag about saying "I have the new Xecutor 3")
But yes, you can run backup games, unsigned xbe's, will work on 1.6 easily, as I mentioned above it's simple, with ltools installer you just load the save game, then hit a few buttons and it is ready in about 30 mins.
Not sure of the exact method TSS used, so I can't tell you how it is, but I know the ltools method is really easy.
The cost of softmodding is roughly $30. that's if you get the game for less than $10, I picked splinter cell and agent under fire up this week for under $10 for the both of them, ($4.99 a piece). And then you also need something to get the game saves to your xbox. The most simple way is to buy an Action Replay, a quick search on froogle said that best buy has them for 23.99 but when I went to the site they were actually 29.99, so oy may have to shop around a bit. _________________

You will need some way to copy it to a memory card, such as an action replay. Just follow the directions for it to load the game save. Other wise you seem to have all the information correct. _________________

You don't need to use action replay or even a memory card for that matter. You can also use a thumbdrive (or jumpdrive whatever you want to call it) and a controller to usb adapter. This is similar to the method that kevin used. Also, which exploit did you plan on using?
