Hello everyone, first time on this site and new to the Xbox modding community. I recently bought myself an original Xbox 1.1 from a Goodwill for 20 bucks. According to them it didn't work and I figured I could bring it back to life. Originally, I didn't notice that it had a little switch sticking out of the side of the system. It wasn't until I opened it up to clean up the mess left behind by its clock capacitor. The switch had two connected wires that went on through to the other side where they were soldered. It also had a modchip attached to it that I have yet to properly identify. Here are some pics of it.

I managed to get the Xbox to boot up once again after replacing the damaged ribbon cable and swapping the fan since it wouldn't budge anymore. I decided to also test the switch and see what it does. I then found out that it is what more than likely used to enable the mod to work. Whenever the switch is in the on position, it attempts to boot up three times then flashes red and green without any video on display. Whenever it's in the off position, it of course just boots up normally. I don't really know how to troubleshoot the issue since I am not at all familiar with Xbox modchips.

Which brings me here today. I am certain that someone here might be able to shed some light on what I'm dealing with. It's a bit difficult to find info since i don't know what to search for really. But I'd like nothing more than to get the Xbox mod to work again.

It's a shame you can't get an error code to display. Here is a link to the Error Codes tutorial. More than likely your mod is looking for some custom files and they are missing. The modchp could be stuffed as well. Are there any lights on it to indicate that the modchip has power??

Another thing you might want to try Auto Installer Deluxe (AID). Download it and burn it to a DVD-R and put it in your xbox with the modchip enabled.. If the modchip is working correctly it should boot the AID disc no matter what.

Hope that helps get you started on the repairs.

Enjoy the site,

Alright, so I burned a copy of AID 4.53 onto a DVD-R and placed it into my Xbox with the chip enabled. Sadly, nothing happened other than it doing the usual startup three times then fragging. Also, there is no light to indicate that it is on. It just has a wired on/off switch attached to the side of the Xbox that enables the modchip. When it is off, it just boots normally.

Such a shame. Sounds like the modchip is dead or the bios is corrupted. Come and join us in the Discord chat room.

I got the same modchip in an Asian crystal blue xbox I purchased, it was also corrupt. I was able to rescue it by putting an Aladdin modchip in, I bypassed the switch and connected the wire coming from the motherboard to the DO point on the chip. Booted a HEXEN disk and took it into the flash menu. Then leaving the xbox powered on, I swapped the Aladdin modchip for the other one. I flashed the chip and it has worked since.
