Do anyone know where the factory language files are within the system, as what drive and where.

I'm trying to switch the language on a system from NTSC-J to NTSC-U.

The console is tsop'ed and chipped with a Duox3. Thanks for any help. Its greatly appreciated!

The keyboard files are in xboxdashdata and can be opened with notepad. I would assume renaming keyboard to keyboard j would replace the japanese keyboard with english. As for actual language files there doesnt appear to be any and must be in the xbe itself.

Or you could try switching the flag on the XBOX from J to U with ConfigMagic and modifying the eeprom.

Are you saying renaming the keyboard to U (instead of J?, as the board is japanese to begin with)

Also if i used eeprom & configmagic , is the method pretty straight forward? i will test this soon enough tommorow.

Yeah region switching is pretty easy. Theres an option for it right in the Configmagic menu. Just dont power off the XBOX until you are sure its working.

As for the keyboard its just a guess based on looking at my NTSC dash files. It has them named KEYBOARD and JKEYBOARD

You should be able to change the language in the MSDASH's Settings -> Language menu.

Eh!, Well im starting to thinking this isn't my issue now. So long story short,i was trying to get my xlink kai set up and play some Halo 2.

Again the console is NTSC-J. And so the game is displaying the games fonts in kanji but all other games of NTSC-U are fine, so was i'm wondering was it the systems' region settings causing this.

So i looked through some stuff, was curious about my bios in general and did a biochecker and my mod chip displays for x2 for the 256k and x4 for the 512k. Each with the same hash key,

So technically doesn't this mean there isn't a bios image attached to either bank? Meaning its a corrupt flash or blank bank?

If your BIOS was corrupt your XBOX would be booting either black screen or the classic E whatever with the service message. Never assume corruption based on what a piece of software tells you. Things like BIOS Checker are notoriously unreliable, My XBOX is a 1.6b softmod but according to BIOS checker Im running Evox M8+. And Version Checker just craps out and shows nothing for my XBOX version.

I would just chalk it up to homebrew with out enough QA done before release.
