Hi All
So i pulled out my old modded xbox that i bought back in 2005 but has been packed away in a box for the past 8 or so years. Some coinops videos piqued my interest again.
So looking at making sure everything is up to date in it.
It is running Xenium OS V1.1 and what i believe is EvoX dashboard v3935
What threw me was when starting up i saw xecutor2 under the xbox logo and wondered what i was running as a chip. I understood it to be a xenium chip am i right or wrong.
Anyhoo i thought i would update the Xenium to latest version of 2.3.1 which i was able to do but after updating i had lost my launch items and could only add the retail kernel. I was able to go back to 1.1 easily enough but does anyone have any answers as to how i can update and still boot into the dashboard.
Also is EvoX worthwhile as a dashboard or are there better alternatives these days?
Thanks in advance

Whats the bank size on the chip? Any BIOS that matches bank size should work fine. IND, Xtecuter and Evox tend to be the most popular. After any flash you will need to readd shortcuts and such, its just like doing a fresh Windows install. Most likely the failure to boot to dash is the xbe is either named different than what the bios is looking for or in a location other than where the bios is looking

Thanks for your reply. The strange thing is when i go back to 1.1 i can boot from Bank A into the Evox dashboard. Anything higher than the 1.1 OS t doesnt list the banks automatically and wants me to enter them in manually
They are seperated by size (512, 1MB etc) and theres also MS BIOS files, Linux BIOS and Custom BIOS (ones that users have modified to improve or change features). There is also a number of manuals for the Xenium chip and others and manual for the XB-EV Tool for editing BIOS files

Appreciate your help. So what is the idea behind the different sized bios files?

Various chips have different bank sizes. Also the various XBOXs you could TSOP had differing BIOS size. Just stick with whatever size you are using now.

If the new XeniumOS uses a different HDD partitioning setup than your current HDD configuration, the Xbox won't boot as expected.
06 - 6 only (F) and
67 - 6 (F) up to 137GB and 7 (G) takes the rest
With the wrong LBA48 configuration - .06, my console just goes to a black screen when it tries to load my default dashboard.
Once flashing the correct LBA48 67 BIOS version or adjusting X3 Config Live's (X3CL) LBA48 setup which matches my HDD's partitioning, the default dashboard starts as expected.
P.S. A lot of the latest BIOS releases can read an XBPartitioner (v1.3 is the latest release for 2TB max HDD installations) partition table from the HDD. Thus, flashing a .06 or .67 release of the BIOS doesn't matter - the partition table if found on the HDD is used.

Other modified BIOSes are flashed to the Xenium modchip and configured via XeniumOS which to boot. In your case, an Xecuter BIOS is set as the default BIOS to boot.

Once the XeniumOS is updated, you'll have to reconfigure the Launch items. So in 1.1 write them down, update to 2.3.1 and add them back.
From the XeniumOS v2.0 manual [attached] (page 5):
A new Xenium or one that has recently had an OS update performed will need to have the virtual bios banks configured.
By selecting the “Add A New Item” option from the Launch Menu you are presented with a dialog box to select the location of where you wish to boot the bios from. The available options include “TSOP” for the Retail Kernel, “Flash” to boot a bios from the Xenium’s Flash memory and “Hard Disk” for BFM based bioses (not yet implemented).

UnleashX 0.39.0528 Build 584 or XBMC4Xbox v3.5.3. Both have a built-in file manager that's missing from Evoxdash.
