I soft modded my Xbox with the hotswap method as detailed here.
I got the mod to work without much trouble, and the first thing I did was backup my eeprom with Evox and FTP'd it to my computer to create an XboxHDM ISO with my eeprom baked in.
Since I had a shadowC from the softmod, I put the original HDD in the PC and copied the C partition to a subdirectory in the E partition, so I could then FTP them to my computer to make another XboxHDM ISO with the C and E partitions baked in along with the eeprom so I could format a larger hard drive.
However, when I put the original HDD in the Xbox so I could FTP in to it, I got error 5. I thought this was odd, since the drive should have re-locked after the computer turned off. I just thought I would use XboxHDM to lock it manually and try again.
Now when I put it in my Xbox I get error 6 and now my XboxHDM CDs won't unlock the drive without using the master password. So now I'm worried that I may have effectively bricked my Xbox.
My theory is that there's a problem with my optical drive that somehow made it read the eeprom wrong. There were a few times that my computer seemed to not recognize the CD when booting, giving an error something like "Boot device not found". I should be able to replicate the error pretty easily if a verbatim error would help.
I have another optical drive that I could try, but I wanted to get some advice before proceeding with this at all.

Unfortunately I have not ever used XBHDM and so exactly what has happened I'd only be guessing.
I really can't understand why you'd get an error 5 (HDD unlocked) and then on reboot an error 6 (HDD can't be unlocked). It sounds contradictory.
It is not clear: are you saying you can still unlock it on the PC using "TEAMASSEMBLY"?
You really need to find another more active forum for help with XBHDM problems like this. I can't tell you where but I know of one forum where some of the guys there have worked on the USB version of XBOXHDM 2.2a and if you can find them I'm sure they'd be able to help.

In my case the master password is XBOXSCENE, but yes I can unlock it that way.
Any kind of help is appreciated.

As hinted: Google XBOXHDM 2.2a and you should be able to find some real experts on XBHDM who will be able to help.
It is a strange problem though because you've clearly locked the HDD with XBHDM. If it wasn't locked by that then the master password "XBOXSCENE", which is what it sets, wouldn't work. So it must have been locked incorrectly somehow or with a wrong or bad eeprom.bin.
Where you go from here I'm not sure. In the absence of any alternative solutions in the past the usual advice was to buy or build an eeprom reader and get the eeprom off the Xbox that way. But there are problems with doing even that now. You need more knowledgeable advice than I can give. Sorry.
BTW "TEAMASSEMBLY" is the master password set by the ConfigMagic app.

glad to see people still playing around with xbhdm.
easy way to find out if drive is locked, hook it back to computer and try to read it.
Youre optical drive will have no impact on lock/unlock.
TEAMASSEMBLY is the correct password,not XBOXSCENE. I can guarantee that.
So try in another computer and lets see. Also, you could always format the drive again and start over on a computer
