Ive installed an old 500GB Sata HDD ive had lying around for years and everything is cloned and working as it should but now when it gets to the Xbox and somewhere near the "microsoft" word under the Xbox logo it has a much longer boot time to the UnleashX dashbaord, I have replaced the default IDE cable with an 80 pin cable and im using a Pata to Sata WLXKJ-863B converter. Everything is fine so far I say fine because I have not FTP'd coinops yet but it runs like it did with my 120GB HDD. I have an Xbox Version 1.4

It sounds like you were expecting a boot speed increase because you're using a SATA rather than IDE HDD. Unfortunately it doesn't work like that.

I've never found an authorative explanation for this but most user posts on forums like this have lay the blame on the SATA/IDE adapter causing a bottleneck.

The reason for using SATA HDDs is not for any any boot/load speed improvement but simply because you can't get large capacity IDE HDDs easily now. They're also often less expensive than any IDE equivalent you can still find.

No ArchAngle I did not install the Sata HDD for faster speed its my first softmodded xbox and my previous HDD was a 120GB IDE because it was one that I could get to work from many and I thought the new coinops 7 masive would be better on a 500GB drive but your right about finding an IDE 500GB drive they are two expensive hence using Sata thou is it true not all Sata drives cause a slow boot? Is there a setting to speed things up a couple of notches?

How slow is slow?

If you're talking about minutes then there is something wrong but 5 - 10 more seconds is nothing to be concerned about.

The only thing that might improve things is to try another SATA/IDE adapter but from your first post I'm fairly sure you're using one of the type most often recommended. I'm fairly sure it is the same type I have too.

What dash are you booting? I ask because I was wondering if you had some non-standard set up and a lot more stuff was loading at start up, maybe slowing it down.
