This is my First time trying to mod the software of an Xbox, and things haven't been going so well.
So first I tried the hot swapping IDE method. I took apart the the Xbox and an old PC that ran win95. I burned a disc with a boot-able of Xboxhdm. I boot up the Xbox and the PC. The PC has the Xboxhdm disc as the only option for booting. The PC boots up, and comes up with the Xboxhdm screen. I test the Xbox's HDD with the music test. I quickly switch the Xbox HDD to the PC and then hit 1 on the keyboard. The screen changes, the Linux penguin appears and text scrolls by. The last line that displayed says something about found drive, then the screen goes black and stays black until I turn the computer off. If I transfer the HDD more slowly, and then repeat the above, the computer cycles saying that it couldn't find any drive until I power it down. So I gave up on that.
Next I tried to use the game exploits and FTP. I soldered a female USB to a controller and then played splinter cell until it let me save. Then I took splinter cell out and plugged in my flash drive. The Xbox formatted the drive and I moved move splinter cell save onto it. then I plugged the flash drive into my computer and opened up xplorer360. I tell it to search for drives using FATX, and it says it finds none. I try USBXTAFGUI and it doesn’t work either. I torrent the action replay installer, install it, run it. Still no drive found. I did this on a 64 bit, win7 and on a 32 bit, XPSP3. I ran all with/without admin rights, XPSP2 compatibility, UAC, USB v1 and USB v2. No FATX drive found on either system with any set of options.
So I don't know what I am doing wrong, and any help in either method would be appreciated. When I got splinter cell, I also got mech assault just in case, and I don't care what 3rd party dash I run as long as I can play burned games.
Xbox has kernel: 1.00.5838.01 and dashboard: 1.00.5960.01 if that makes a difference.

Hi KABO5e and welcome to the site.
SPPV will definitely be able to help you I'm positive. I've always been a modchip guy/TSOP and sure i do softmods etc, but it's been years for me now, i've been modding 360's and getting ready to mod a xbox one.
I will shoot him a quick message now for you and send him a link to this thread. He will no doubt see it soon anyway.. If you have skype installed look for a post from SPPV in our forums and in his signature is a skype support account. You can chat live with sppv and he will hook you up.
It sounds like you know what your doing so it could be something so simple. Maybe the memory card isnt quite compatible to do the softmod. Not sure there.. Never fear though, plenty of softmodded guys around here.

Use this Xplorer360. Also your Splinter Cell methodology is way off. You dont play and save lol. You want NO Splinter Cell save on your XBOX. There will be 2 saves you copy to your USB 21585554 (Installer) and 5553000c(Splinter Cell linker file)
Follow this tut only obviously your using Xplorer360 to copy the saves instead of Action Replay. Also a USB should register as a mem card not a FATX drive.
I used the link for xplorer and that explorer worked, so my xbox is now modded. Thanks for the help.

Youre getting rusty Hobbs lol. Always remember if the XBOX formatted the USB (MSdash-THE DEVICE HAS BEEN ERASED) that means the USB and adapter are fine, the issue is the app being used to load the files.
Glad you got it modded, now you just need to upgrade that HDD and you'll be set.

rusty is not the word.. it was like 3am in the morning and ive had a big week.. Jesus its been years since ive softmodded an xbox now.. Sure i remember how to do it, but i used to always use auto installer deluxe and a official memory card. (much simper).. lol DJB asked me to do a modchip the other week and i said sure no probs.
SPPV, this is why your the man on HQ and Everyone knows it particularly for softmodding.. I just build this place and taught guys all this shit many many years ago. Modchips were out for many years before the softmod exploits too remember.
