i have an old Xbox just sitting around and i decided i want try and mod it. i don't know what is all involved and i don't want to read a bunch of posts saying try this or try that. i would like someone to walk me through the process though so i have guidance where i need it. please help. i am thinking about the soft-mod way.

skype is free and simple to install.. A great tool if you don't have it installed already you can grab it here - http://www.skype.com.. It even works on your phone.. YOu can txt chat or video chat.. We prefer to txt chat mostly.

Its just like text messaging lol Just click on contacts and type in XBOX-Hq Support and hit search. It will find me hit contact request to send me a message asking me to allow you and boom we chattin and modding that XBOX. We can do it here via forum if you prefer but real-time skype is best

OKAY...
any WORKING xbox version can be softmodded...
look in the "tutorial" section for some ideas....
i'm a bit pre-disposed and not much help at the moment!
some free info....
REQUIREMENTS: (just for the initial softmod)
1 one working xbox! (assuming it's still at factory defaults) with a working dvd rom!
2, an xbox 8m memory card (doesn't have to be official) OR a WORKING compatible usb card with the appropriate cable to plug it into the xbox! (usb card MUST be 4g or less, as a matter of fact, anything higher just won't work) and a RETAIL copy of the game vs the mc/usb exploit you'll be using (ie: TC's SC retail game for it's counterpart exploit)
3-a, SPPV's BABYLON archive (onsite) and unpack it...BUT read the enclosed documentation FIRST before usage.
3-b, for the 8m mc, get the SID 5.11/5.12 mc/usb package (@ xbox-hq.com) and copy the appropriate exploit to the mc/usb card using "xbox-xplorer360" (READ the sid 5.11/5.12 package documentation before usage...common sense really)

thanx for trying to help. i know i dont have a xbox memory card just a ps2 card. i also dont have tc sc either and i cant find it around me or the memory card. and i dont see how a usb will plug into the xbox???

1, a ps2 mc is pretty much ruled out...
2, as i stated above, TC's SC was ONE example of the retail games used! (my mod was done that way....there's a 007 and mech assault mod in the package that i can think of besides...get the retail game that matches the exploit.......remember, an NTSC game for the NTSC exploit, NOT a PAL game and NTSC exploit or vice versa, won't work)
3, you "don't see" how a usb card can plug into the xbox...
i'm not gonna entertain that one...you can look online or in the tutorial section here!
even "xbox-hq.com" has subjects on it....and here also! (yeah, did mention above to look in the "tutorial" section here)

there's PLENTY of subjects on the "xbox socket to usb socket" converter cables......here and elsewhere.
question is...will the card you have work? (again, NOT touching that one as i've NEVER owned a compatible usb card that works on the xbox....i have the cable though and many here have positive results with 4g or less usb cards and even usb to sd card readers!)

ok i think i made a usb to xbox cable and i found a sd/mmc reader/writer and formatted it to 1G fat usb drive. i tried 2 usb sticks and they wont work. it says the memory unit i inserted isnt functioning, it may be damaged. i did get sid 5.11 downloaded and unzipped. i cannot find a copy of the games to do the mod though no one local sells Xbox games nemore. can i use a downloaded copy if i can find one?

it has to be a retail original game to pop it's cherry!
once done (right) that's it..sotfmod/backup disk playback ability COMPLETE!
..........
make sure you use the computer app "xbox-xplorer360" to transfer the exploit to the sd card...use it's GUI for the transfer then once it's done, close the program, safely disengage the sd card/reader from the computer.....
then, power up the xbox, wait for the da$h to load and plug in the sd card/usb reader and it should show as a "memory unit" in the da$h save/account handler!
copy that save (exploit) to the xbox hdd then get the corresponding game and kick it off...

chances are, the sd card/usb reader isn't compatible!? (seriously, it's that simple! it either works or it doesn't....assuming the cable you've made is properly done?!)
when you get an 8m xbox mc, plug that into the pad, then the pad into the computer (i'm guessing you should be able to do that now?) and use "xplorer 360" as mentioned above to copy the save-exploit file to the 8m mc and take it from there...
