hey guys ive just started getting back into 3ds max and im wondering if anyone can help me figure out how to go about making a game. my last project i got as far as animating a guy to walk to a computer terminal and then to a set of stargate rings that should have come down one at a time and then a flash of light to make him disappear. but i only got as far as making him goto the terminal, push a few buttons and then walk to the rings. could someone help me make a homebrew game for xbox. do i need a debug xbox? if so how do i use one to troubleshoot the games i make?

Lots of homebrew xbox game makers and info and tools. And yes you need XDK and debug. Without xdk you cant compile it to work on xbox. I have every xdk edition in my folder on the repo over at xtras. And you can use xbmc installer 3.2.2 to install debug on any xbox in about 3 seconds, dont need an official debug

I did an intro for the first auto instller deluxe. It may still be around, but anyway, i used a Xbox-HQ logo which I designed in 3ds max and we did a cool 3d rotation with it with stars and shit in the background, It was real old school.. I cant find a local copy otherwise id record it for a laugh.. lol

So you're going to design a whole game using 3ds max? Or just some objects?

You can make your own debug xbox with auto installer deluxe addon packs.. Learn more in my tutorial here.. The debug makes it much easier to test your code at the click of a mouse rather than copying it over all the time.
A modded xbox is just like a debug, it runs unsigned code. Smile

Sorry about the tutorial but its very very old, should still be 100% accurate though.

Hey forahobby....i remember talking to you a long time ago. you and hellraiser use to help me out all the time on here. basically i just want to make a game playable on the xbox. im using 3ds max just for characters and other stuff. im really new to this so i have no idea how to make a complete game. i have a friend that can do C#,C++ or whatever. im just starting to get back into 3ds max but i have a bunch of tutorials on how to use it. im sure this project will take a long time but its something ive wanted to do for a long time. any help would be much appreciated. for example if i make a character in 3ds max how do i tie him together with the coding and the controller? any other info would be appreciated as well.

If i find my code i will be sure to attach it to this thread.. I did have a text scroller going accross the screen which you could use the joypad to make it go faster or slower.. That code might help you, only problem is i have to find it.. Anyway, I will do my best to hunt around, but can't promise anything.

The joypad commands are pretty straight forward.

Oh and here is a site if you haven't found it already. Ben helped me when i ran into stumbling blocks.. He is such a nice guy too.

If youre gonna do the homemade dev XBOX you will most likely need to track down a 4920 MS dash to use the one in AID. If you already have 5960 use the XBMC Installer one since it doesnt have a dash req.

For controller commands check out the src for Virtual Jag or Xport emus or grab the Fuel Crisis src off the site here.
