First off, Hi guys, I go by YungStar and a couple members here have talked highly about the amount of experience on these forums.

I'll try to keep this as simple, yet detailed as possible so that maybe somebody can help me -

I recently bought an Xbox from a local goodwill, after not owning a WORKING box for 3 or more years. To my surprise it already had EvoX installed.

First thing I did was download SPPV's XBMC 3.2.2 installer disc and proceed to install UnleashX (My Favorite Dash). Things went great except for a few bumps that I got over. I started making backups of SOME of the games I have left and made a couple of Emulator discs which worked fine.

After playing the Box nonstop since I bought it, I stopped playing for 2 or 3 days and then took it to my girlfriends house. Hooked it up, inserted a backup and the Xbox (Flubber) intro played, then booted to a black screen. Tried another backup, then an Emulator disc, and even the XBMC installer, same problem.

After leaving the next day I hooked it up to my TV (last TV it was played on) thinking maybe it was her HDTV and my Component cables (I have old school CRTs w/ Composite). Same problems, so I decided "screw it" and inserted a Retail copy, and it worked!

The front LED is still Red, just boots to black screen (no disc in drive). I am unable to play backups (not that big of an issue) or Emulators (BIG issue) or XMBC (that is just sad).

Extra Info -
I was unable to backup my EEPROM, even with XBMC installer. I also was unable to install a dual-boot. Even if I had the EEPROM, I have no PC with IDE connections, all SATA.

Any help would be great, if any additional info is needed, I will happily give that info. Thanks in advance!

I can't access any Dashboard, maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're asking me to do.

I tried the reboot to dash (L+R+W+B+Star+Back is what Ive always done) from in game. I have booted from both Power and Eject buttons, same results. Can you elaborate more on what you meant?

Off the top of my head though, I believe I remember a SID file there but it was just the main block, nothing saved under that block (I think that makes sense).

Thanks again SPPV!

It sounds as if there is a dash installed somewhere but the Xbox is either not booting it properly or the xbe file is corrupt.

Not sure how this could happen with a trip somewhere. I doubt it's a HDD problem, cause unless you dropped it real hard somewhere, this just doesn't happen.

Put in a retail game tht is Live enabled. When it runs hit connecct to live and let it do its thing. When its one you should have MS Dash again. Now DELETE EVERY SAVE not ssociated with a rtail game. That means inux, SID, UnleashX, DVD2 etc. When done that copy over fresh save files for SID and softmod it. When done pop in XBMC Installer and hit ShadowC-UnleashX

I'm not sure either, I have never had this happen before with my previous two Boxes, but those two suffered failure in their own way.

Something that maybe I should have mentioned, but I didn't think it mattered. The night before I left there was a power surge in my house, the Xbox was powered off when this happened but the TV that shut off was in the same outlet. I didn't try the Xbox because I figured that if it was off, it would have not been affected.

A couple people have given me one suggestion, that is to find an Xbox Live compatible game with the 5960 Dash update and try to "update".

Only hole in the theory (I think *newbie here*) is that my M$ dash was already at 5960 when I bought it, plus I had previously nuked my M$ dash while using XBMC installer (Messing around too much) and used that same disc to restore it, and seen it was at 5960.

Say that I try that, is it possible to use update to restore to default, and I could just use an Exploit to reload the softmod?

*EDIT*

Okay, I'll give this a shot when I get a chance. Somebody is sending me an Exploitable game in the mail soon.

Thanks guys, and great community you have here! Very helpful and informative, I appreciate it. I will check back in and let you know how it goes.

Its ok if youre already rocking 5960. What said will eliminate any software error. The fact you can run retail means it is a software error or a DVD laser error. And before we get into messing with hardware I want to eliminate possible software errors. Also without the list from memory I cant say for sure what mod you are running and this eliminates that and puts you on even ground and going in with our mods which means we can offer the best support. If its an unknown mod, unknown files we can only guess etc.

Just got Forza Motorsports and Splinter Cell in the mail today, Updated via Forza then ran SID5.10 (from here) via Splinter Cell. Backed up the EEPROM and MS DASH, Single boot Virtual C+EEPROM UnleashX.

Any other precautions I should take?

btw, the only out of place thing I seen in memory was "PPF XBOX" or something like that. I have never seen that before.

Thanks alot SPPV! Update the re-mod worked like a charm Smile

^^ a bit late on my part!
ppf xbox (the embedded softmod program) is for patching an older dash part (if i recall correctly? 4.5 knave, still have it, could prove useful for the occasion?)
my first softmod had that item embedded inside it, was required at the time as i was on an older da$h (4xxxx) made a backup to "E:/backup/ms" first BEFORE applying the ppf patch/run the FE!
if you're on m$5960, is shouldn't be required to run that item, all SPPV's gear has all the required steps and patches taken care of...best you DON'T run ppf-xbox incase you f*ck something!?
if the console is working and the softmod is behaving as such, then all is good! leave it be!
i'll edit the OP's thread title to include [resolved] as this thread appears so....
Very Happy

You NEVER EVER EVER instal virtual eeprom. Put in XBMC Installer 3.2.2 hit Disable SHadow C. It will reboot the XBOX (DO NOT REMOVE THE DISC) Now hit ShadowC-UnleashX just like I said above.

You WILL have issues running ShadowC from SID5.10, and WILL have issues getting your real eeprom to make an upgrade HDD running Virtual EEPROM.

Thats why its best to follow instuctions to a tee Very Happy You can grab XBMC Installer here onsite http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&lid=1406

^^ virtual eeprom? can't say i've heard of it or seen an option to do "it"...
thought it was a reference to the eeprom backup going to another directory?
thanks for the pointer, i know now what NOT to use!
good looking out! Cool

Its a great idea in theory. What it does is creates a BS eeprom file that will spoof apps like ConfigMagic so people messing with stuff they shouldnt cant brick the EEPROM chip turning the XBOX into a paperweight. Problem is it also spoofs Evox and Ava and other eeprom backup utilities so the eeprom you get is the fake one. So when you use t with AutoBuilder, LXHDM or Chimp it will lock the HDD with the wrong eeprom and hit you with an E6 when you boot your XBOX.

You still can get the real eeprom when running virtual but you gotta go digging for it. Like trying to find the treasure of Oak Island

i see!
i won't touch config magic given it's nature..(but it has it's uses to the professionals ONLY!)
thanks for the extra warning, should i see any more references to "virtual eeprm" (unless it's a thread out of my scope of understanding/dev thread)
i'll be sure to give the nod to would-be posters NOT to touch anything like that!
Very Happy
(never bricked an xbox but i've come close in my own way and the feeling of that rush is SO freaky, i care NOT to repeat that again if i can help it) Confused
