With a PC its pretty easy to do, XBOX not so easy, only thing is if its locked you need the EEPROM.bin file, and hotswap will only work if you have the XBOX that locked it. The premise behind swapping is that the XBOX unlocks the drive and you switch data cables before it can relock.

If you just have an XBOX you need to install Configmagic Final, copy the EEPROM file for the drive you wanna unlock to the Data folder of Configmagic (E - Apps - Configmagic) now boot configmagic open the menu, and unlock your drive if its locked, now chose load EEPROM.bin file, now hit update XBOX EEPROM, now lock the drive, turn off the xbox unhook the drive and hook up the one you want unlocked and boot the XBOX go to Configmagic and unlock the drive.

I'll warn you right now this method is very unforgiving and a single mistake can and most likely will lead you to a useless XBOX.

Last option if you dont have the EEPROM is go to the Samsung site download the firmware tools for that HDD, hook it to a PC and flash the firmware. You will now have an erased but unlocked HDD.

On the xbox, just download the EvoX Dash, put it on there as an app, open it and use its settings to unlock it. Also, the Auto Installer Deluxe MAY be able to unlock it for you as well! Very Happy

Doesnt Evox use the EEPROM stored on the MOBO and not in the firmware layer of the HDD?

You either have to get HDD unlock, or you have to get the EEPROM from the original Xbox. Those are the only two ways that you can unlock the hard drive.

It's so much easier to just softmod instead of buying a chipped box in the first place and it takes about an hour writing everything you need to the hdd.

Small tip, don't buy used xbox locally unless you see the inside of it, or buy them from game retailer store that sells them, I've seen people buy xbox and the hdd wasn't there and they were screwed because they couldn't find the EEPROM.bin

it's a good idea to always buy an unmodded one or if you are going to buy a modded one ask for a back up of the eeprom. The bin file is your prime key to unlocking it the way you want to.

Just some advice though I highly recomend tracking down an old pc then downloading SID5 and write it from your pc it only takes about an hour and it's pretty fun, once you do it once or twice you'll have the steps memorized. Smile

IF It is modded then there's a chance you can drag your EEPROM.Bin file from your ftp server by downloading a program like Filezilla, just plug an Ethernet cord from your router to your xbox and if it came with a hdd plug in the orginial hdd you should be able to locate your eeprom inside your E or C folder I can't remember but it should be in there. Razz

Filezille how to log in:

Host: Your IP adress shown on your TV
Username: xbox
password: xbox
Port: Can be left blank or 21

None of that will work. sadly, because he has a hard drive that is locked to another Xbox. It also doesn't sound like he has the other Xbox. So he can't boot up his chipped Xbox with the hard drive in it. Which means that he can't get the eeprom of the other Xbox off of the hard drive.

If you have the choice, always get the chipped Xbox. A chipped Xbox is so much easier to work with than a softmodded Xbox.

I think people only have issues with softmod because they dont understand what their doing. If you get to truly understand the ins and outs its a cake walk.

Only options you have Medgard is to flash that HDD using the manufacturers firmware tools and rebuild it. You will lose any info on the drive, but it will unlock it and remove the current eeprom code from the firmware layer of the HDD. Other option is to hook it up to a PC and use XBOXHDM/Pimped and cross your fingers the HDD has been locked using ConfigMagic or XBOXHDM. If it has you can boot DOSLocking Tools and use the master password, "xboxscene" or "Team Assembly"

The fact that its a Samsung HDD means that either Configmagic, Chimp or XBOXHDM was used to build it so there will be a master password. If you dont have a PC to unlock it with you can send me the HDD and I can unlock and generate the HDD key from it for you.
