So.. as the title says, I inherited (bought) a modded XBox and have some newbie questions.
What I have been able to determine so far....
-The console is running a version of XBMC
-It is V1.4 (possibly v1.5)
-Has an 80gb HD
Unfortunately I can't see a mod chip at all, so I can only assume it was "soft modded"
My questions are...
1: What limitations do I have with a soft mod compared to an actual mod chip?
2: Are there currently any larger sized HDD that I can purchase/install at the moment? None of the larger (250gb +) listed on this site are available to buy.
Thank you in advance and I look forward to becoming a part of your community.

With a chip you dont need to lock the HDD and you can fix any error in less time, it wont let me enlarge the pic so i dont know if its tsop or softmod.
Most any lockable hdd will work up to 1TB.

I used this site http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/?p=list to assist me in determining which hard drives would work. If you find one in an old computer or buy one online, just make sure it is listed here and can be locked. An unlocked hard drive won't be registered.

Honestly, I've never had a hard drive that wouldn't lock and I've put bigger hard drives in at least 6 Xboxes now. The one I put in my friends even came out of his old computer from 1998 and it locked just fine. _________________

Ive come across 2 that wont lock 1 a maxtor the other a seagate both 20GB and came from absolutely ancient PCs at work.
Easiest way to tell if you got a softmod is go to E drive UDATA and there should be a folder 21585554 (SID/Ndure) open it and there should be a folder and 2 files. The folder will be nothing but zeros. Open it and you should see the softmod files. A backup folder, blank folder, files folder and skin folder plus a bunch of files like config.xml, evox.ini, evox.xbe, install.xbe, menu.xbe saveimage.xbe and others. Only Softmodded XBOXs should have tis since chip and TSOP run off a hacked bios not a software modification
