Sorry if this is in the wrong forum but.....
I recently unpacked the old xbox from the roofspace and have been using it as a media player for the bedroom linked to my media server. All was going well untill the hdd died last night. Its totally knackered not spinning up just clicking. Luckly I have a spare 120gb ide drive which I promptly installed but obvousily its not that simple. On doing some research I was of the opinion that the Auto Installer Disc is capable of setting up a new hdd but no matter what I do I can't get the xbox to boot to the disc. I've tried CD-RW, DVD+R and DVD-R but all with the same result i.e. error 16. Anyone know why this is the case, or am I barking up the wrong tree here with my approach. I've tried swapping out the dvd drive with the one from my own computer but its still not reading. The xbox is rather old i think its a version 1.0 and it was chipped back in the day but to be honest I'm not sure what the chip is. Xecutor 2 maybe?? (could of made that up lol) Its got a panel on the front of the box with a blue led and 3 toggle switches.

Build the drive using XBOXHDM and virgin 5960 dash files, once done put the drive in the xbox and since its chipped it should boot up fine without being locked. Without the C drive files the xbox will never read a disc its just a fancy bunch of wires and boards. Using the DVD drive from your PC is a no go as far as I know only one model of Philips drive was ever able to be flashed and used in the XBOX.
Follow this tut, ignore the E drive and EEPROM and C drive in the ISO building part (the C drive files are there already if you use the download I linked to). Follow the tut for building the drive but skip the part about locking it.
