First off, very nice site. Very impressed with the quality of tutorials and knowledge of members.
I started modding xboxs when the first Xecuter 3 chip came out. I remember watching either the Screen Savers or Call for Help with Leo Laporte and Kevin Rose and they were showing a modded Xbox. My mouth dropped to the floor and I said " I must get one of these!!" So I bought a Halo Edition Xbox and an X3 chip and got lucky with my first installation!! Then I put in a Translucent Green front panel with LCD to match the Halo Case. I still have it and show friends and family when they come over. I used to brag that I had an Xbox that a little boy would trade his little puppy for!HAHA.
Well now I have my own house and would like to get back into the swing of things again. I want an Xbox in every room with a tv and network them all together with a media server in the basement. So I already bought 5 old xboxs for less than 100 bucks and started to do the softmod method.
I would like to put in the x3 chip into 1 more xbox because I have 1 more lcd panel for it I found in my "box of parts" But I notice these x3 chips are now very hard to find!. That figures!...I also have a Xtender for the xbox and never hooked it up. Does anyone have any advice for hooking these up? I remeber they were a bit quirky with the hard drives you could use.
OK thats enough blah blah for now

When you say xtender are you refering to the HDD extender to hook up multiple drives or the M$ software that allowed streaming from an XP PC?
I havent seen anything about needing to use special drives for either extender, other than the usual lockable drives used in an Xbox

Multiple Hard Drives. I used to remember that it had to be certain brands and they all had to be the same size. But that was years ago when it first came out and I really haven't checked into it but I would like to start to.

It would depend on your BIOS and memory controller. The ones on a stock or unflashed box dont support multiple drives and thats probably where the thing about needing special drives came from. From everything I can find it doesnt have to be a special brand or anything like with making a generic drive for 360
Llamas own brand of the xtender seems to not work with WD but works well with Seagate and Maxtor
I will have to look into this again. I know hard drives are so large nowadays that the xtender is pretty much obsolete, but I would like to utilize it just because I have it. It would go into my x3 modded xbox. I don't know if it would work with a softmod. I will have to start to do some research on this.
Slightly off topic but is there an adapter or something so you could use a sata hd with a modded xbox?

You need a SATA to IDE adapter, but and this is a big but not all drives will work. Another member here tried a few different ones and got frozen security on a couple of em. Ive seen reports of ghosting and data corruption, and I know on a PC you lose performance on the drive since its limited by the IDE interface.
Ive been meaning to get around to doing up my 250GB Toshiba laptop SATA and make a video tut.
Realy the only advantage with SATA over IDE is cost since right now a brandnew WD Caviar 500GB IDE is 99 bucks but a WD Blue Caviar 500GB SATA is only 54 bucks.

Hi CanyonMan,
Welcome to the HQ..
Glad to hear you like the site too..
All of our members are very switched on for just about anything xbox1, 360, or PC and amongst us have years of experience in software, programming, electonics, hardware, hacking and just about everything.. hehe
All we ask in return on HQ from our new members is to try to pass on what you learn to other newbies/intermediates or advanced members.. it cant hurt to put in your own opinion on something and it normally helps.
If you are into Xbox 360 you might be interesting in logging into 360-HQ.COM. You can use your same username and password and also chat with our 360 members and tech guys.
anyway, enjoy the sites, and feel free to post any questions you may have.
Thank You for the Welcome. It is nice to find a site like this where it genuinely seems people like to help. I've been at a few sites(won't mention any names) where the poor noobs are always flamed. I would get more irratated at the member than the poor noob.
I plan on being here a long time helping alot of people when I can.
Thanks again.
