I've been using a component/HD cable on my soft modded (XBMC) Xbox for the past few years and it's been great. This is a v1.6 xbox, it can run all modes without any issues.

I recently tried the same cable on an exact same modded xbox v1.1 and although it works, whenever I switch to 480/720/1080 I get 2 lines of flashing black and white pixels.

I've researched this issue to death and can't find a viable solution beyond trying another cable. The cable still works fine on the v1.6 xbox.

I think I recall, a long time ago, reading about video issues using a v1.1 Xbox. I noticed one uses CONEXTANT? whilst the other uses EXCALIBUR. Is it simply that v1.1 can't handle the componen/hd output?

What other options do I have for getting HD quality on my v1.1 xbox? VGA cable?

Any direct links to products appreciated. Or any reasons why I'm receving the pixel lines appreciated.

I dont have an answer for you but i can tell you i have never had a problem with a 1.1 and HD i use a microsoft AV pack maybe thats the ticket ?
Maybe its a problem with the softmod ? Personally i never liked them you can TSOP flash a 1.1 have you thought of trying that ? With the Live service being gone for the older Xbox there is no reason really to use softmod anymore .

Hey, it is problably your component cable, if anything, try updating to the latest version of Xbox Media Center and see if that helps.

Did the latest xbmc update, no difference. If it is the cable, why would it work on a v1.6 xbox (2 of them) but not v1.1?

Ohh, sorry, I misread it! Are you running any custom settings? Have you ever trying any other Homebrew in 720 other than XBMC?

Ohh, sorry, I misread it! Are you running any custom settings? Have you ever trying any other Homebrew in 720 other than XBMC, and did you make sure only ONE setting was checked (ex: 480p( ) 720p (X) 1080i ( ))?

I don't believe I have any custom settings, this is a fresh installation of XBMC

I'm using TECH's XBMC
XBMC4Xbox r29407 (Compiled Apr 27 2010)

I used the method HERE to change to NTSC. Everything as far as the guide is concerned worked fine, NTSC enabled in XBMC and MS Dash etc..

This is the issue

That's in HD skin (PM3 HD), but it's the same in PMIII skin. I basically have 2 of those lines which flash horizontally across the screen very quickly giving the effect of many flashing pixels.

Video Info on v1.1 xbox

Video Encoder: CONNEXANT
Screen Res: 1280x720 720p 16:9 60.00Hz
A/V Cable: HDTV
Video & XBE Region: NTSC M, Europe / Australia

When you say only 1 video mode enabled, does it matter? Also do you mean in the XBMC settings or MS Dash or both?

The cable I'm using is a Bigben Interactive Component Cable. Took me awhile to find but this is it

Product Description
http://www.consoleplus.co.uk/product_info.php?page=2&pName=high-def-xbox-component-cable-bundle-inc-cable

Ok, I just went back on my v1.6 xbox and the video info, in contrast to v1.1 was this

Video Encoder: XCALIBUR
Screen Resolution: 1280x720 720p 16:9 60.00Hz
A/V Cable: HDTV
Video & XBE region: PAL I, Europe / Australia

In XBMC System > Video Output all 3 (480p/740p/1080i) modes are enabled. Bare in mind this is on v1.6 which works and has always worked with all HD modes.

As v1.6 is saying PAL I went into the MS Dash, all HD modes are enabled in it. Not sure why it says PAL when v1.1 says NTSC. In XBMC for v1.1. and 1.6 it lists NTSC when i go through the video modes. So don't know why the system info says PAL I

Have you ever tried a different skin on XBMC as it almost sounds as if it was the skin. If the problem is still present, try re-installing the method you used to enable NTSC HD.

Well, tried reinstalling the method from scratch. Same result.

I've downloaded another skin to try out with, going to download a couple then i'll report back on any difference.

Ok, just tried MediaStream, it gives me 3 lines of those flashing pixels in contrast to 2 lines with PMIII.

2 lines with Confluence.

ooh. Ok, I went back to MediaStream skin and switched to 480p 4:3. The lines are gone! 1080i 16:9 theres 1 line. 480p doesn't look good enough, especially as it's 4:3. So i'll keep playing with other skins.

Ok having fiddled with various skins it seems I'm getting these flashing pixelated lines in 720p 16:9 and 1080i 16:9 only. Yes, this is on v1.1 xbox, these modes still work fine on v1.6.

Damn, what's going on?

Not sure how that would help but just tried it.

Deleted E:\Cache contents, then formated X: Y: X: rebooted, and no difference.

GPU might be starting to fail in that xbox and the added stress of a higher out put may be causing the prob.

Just putting that out there but you never know.
