A little history:
I sofmodded an original xbox a month or so ago using SID 5. I then used AID 4.5 to install a bunch of apps. I then started trying out different apps to see how they worked. I copied a number of games, I upgraded the hd using chimp, I installed various scripts, I updated XBMC to the latest version, etc. Everything seemed to be working OK and I was getting used to how things worked.
Lately I've been trying to figure out the emulation stuff. I found Coinops and had started playing around with that. I had got it running and had tried to play a few games. They started and ran OK but the controls didn't seem to work correctly.
I went back to the main menu thinking I would go to the Games" selection and run the copy of the DVD a friend gave me containing lots of old emu games. Instead of getting a list of games like I expected (I had been using the DVDcopy app mostly to see the list of ripped games), the xbox immediately opened the xbox game CDX-Topspin-NCAA Football 2005. Although this wasn't what I wanted, I chose football. Immediately, the xbox said I needed to update. It said to wait while it downloaded software. I waited until it was done and the game started.
I've never figured how to get from a game back to the sofmod menu. I usually just press the power button. I did this and when it booted up, the microsoft standard menu came up. I figured the download had overwritten the menu, so I thought I would just reload the mod.
I popped MechWarrior in and wen to the "Run Linux" pick. When I ran it, MechWarrior restarted. I copied the original exploit back onto the xbox from a usb drive and tried it again. Same result. I figured something must be hosed so I tried to FTP in. Couldn't get it.
Then I thought I would go to network settings on the MS menu and check the ip address. When I did this, I got a message that stated I needed to contact customer support
What do I do now?

Even after the xbox has been updated you should still be able to reinstall the softmod.. It's a shame you started that game which forced a dashboard update but im sure you will be able to get it working again if you stick with it.
If any of our other mods or members have input they will be sure to reply.
Personally, i would do like you have said and try to reinstall.. Maybe even try to update the dashboard to a newer version then what it is currently running using another game..
