I am trying to familiarize myself with AID 4.5 I have read the manual several times and have run through many of the options on a test xbox. I have sofmodded the box successfully. I have booted off the AID disk OK. I have installed dsahboards and apps OK.
Once while loading things or changing things. I ended up back to the MS xbox boot screen when I rebooted. I must have hosed something. I suspect it has to do with the Virtual C; warning a kept seeing in the manual and in AID. I had to start all over
Can someone explain the me the pros and cons of a virtual C I think I have already seen one of the cons.
Also can someone explain that sometimes when I boot with the AID disk I see the menu shown in the manual and at other times I see one of the daskboards with a more limited set of options?

Virtual C hides the C partition so you cant bash it by accident and the limited dash your seeing is probably the SID dash.

Pros you cant whack the C drive so you should be able to boot to the ms dash if you mess up the mod dash.
cons are you will need to unmount the virtual C if you want to make any majer change to the xbox like a full reinstall.
If you know to not move or delete any C drive files you dont need the virtual C, i dont use it but i install it on any xbox i build for friends with kids.

Thanks for your reply.
Could you explain the mechanics of it. Where is it created? Is it created each time you boot up? Does it affect performace? I'm still having trouble grasping how it works.
I understand the concept of a virtual drive. We used to make RAM drives back in the day to speed up PCs, However, with the xboxes limited disk space and RAM I wonder where and how this virtual drive is created

It is the C partition you just cant edit it with this type of install, its always there so no its not built on start up and it will run just as smooth as a standerd install.

I guess I must be duller than most knives in the drawer. Is there some written explanation somewhere about the Virtual Drive C The answers I keep getting are not helping me understand what it is and what it does. I know you are rolling your eyes right now. I don't blame you. I'm an engineer and just like to know how things work.
It appears that the MS Dash runs from c: Does the virtual c: phrase refer to fooling the xbox that the modded dash actually running on e: is on c
