Alright.
I've already softmodded my xbox, fixed my emulator roms trouble, and I've been wanting to drop a bigger HDD into my xbox since I got everything sorted out.
About 20 minutes ago I FTP'd all the information from my working xbox hdd to my replacement drive. (Western Digital Caviar SE - 160gb. -- Mdl: WD1600JB - 00REA0 -- Date: 31 Aug 2006 -- DCM: HSCANTJCA)
So, thinking I had done everything right without looking up any walkthroughs, because I figured 'why the hell wouldn't it work?" I popped in the replacement HDD and I got a #13 error. I turned off the xbox, turned it back on and place the AID disc into the drive and got error #14.
I did a quick scan of the site looking for a walkthrough, and did a quick google search. I didn't find a walkthrough on this site, and the google search directed me to a walkthrough that required a modchip.
Since I'm running with a softmod, I'm wondering how I could remedy the situation. -- I noticed someone mentioning 'locking the drive' on this site but I'm not sure what that means. The only thing I did other than FTP'ing the info and plugging the drive back in the slot was make sure it had a jumper in the same position as the previous drive.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm about to start working on it now - I'll post back with my results.

I hit a couple of snags as soon as I started.
I didn't have a molex Y-splitter. --- I made my own, however, it took a bit to figure out which cables I wanted to sacrifice in order to make one.
Then I installed Chimp 2.4 from my AIDeluxe disc... and it won't work. When I boot up Chimp, the screen gets wavy for about three seconds then I get a green screen and my xbox freezes. I"m stuck at loading chimp. - I tried to find some external downloads for it but I'm not having much luck.
I've been thinking about trying to go about the method using xboxhdm 1.9 - but it seems a bit more exhausting than I'm willing to work with. (not that I haven't already done a bunch of crazy stuff)
alright, followed the 1.6v trial. Everything worked fine. I was moving along with the tutorial great, and everything seemed to work.
But now I've got a very big issue.
When I exchanged the HD and pushed my power button, the xbox would automatically shutdown after 1 second. It would try three times, then I get Christmas lights with no error on the tv screen.
I've checked all my connections, and I even tried loading up my original HD, but to no avail. I'm getting christmas lights.

Did you move the HDD jumper back to its original position?
Hmmm, im puzzled, if you screwed some files you would normally be greeted with an error screen, that Frag you describe normally occurs when you have bios issues or a motherboard problem, its weird that your stock hard drive gives you the same error - something hasnt worked its way under the motherboard creating a short, is there ? _________________

I made a mental note that when I took out the original HD that the jumper was in 'cable select' position, so that's where I put the jumpers when I was trying to see if my original drive would correct christmas lights. I even tried them with no jumpers placed for 'Single or Master' setting. That didn't work either.

I took out the motherboard and found nothing out of the ordinary. A couple of dustbunnies, the usual.
I'm writing this as I'm putting the motherboard back in, after I get everything back in place and my cables are secure, I'll fire the xbox back up to see if I'm still getting the error. After I got frustrated yesterday, I left and didn't get back in until about 3am

*Edit*
I did a bit of troubleshooting and messed around a bit. My dvd drive has been giving me a lot of issues recently. It would play discs fine but it wouldn't open without a little bit of help. I think the motor finally burnt out (or something) in the last couple of days. Whenever I turn on my xbox it would try to spit the tray out, even if I pushed the power button and not the open button... regardless if there was a disc in the drive or not. I took all the covers off the dvd drive, and BAM - xbox powered up just fine. Both hard drives work (huzzah) but my dvd drive is causing my issues now.
now to see if I can fix the dvd drive or if I need to buy a replacement.
