I havemt delved into consoles too much but recently picked up an original xbox. it plays DVDs and audio discs but will not play xbox discs. Any ideas? Thanx. I know the normal answer is buy a 360 but again im more of a PC gamer than a console star

where did you get the xbox from, if you got it brand new than it should be working fine, but if you got it second hand then you might be getting screwed over, E.G if it plays dvds and audio and not xbox games than chances are that some person has replaced the xbox dvd drive with a dvd drive that comes from a regular computer,
if the xbox is brand new than ignore this reply but if you got it second hand, would you mind telling us what type of dvd drive it is.
and also forget about the 360 for now, until i can mod my 360 like i can with an original xbox than i supposed it will be kept away for awhile.

PC dvd wont work in an xbox at all unless he is using XBMC as his dash.

I thought for example the lg-8162 works to play dvd and cd, just not original games at all just back-ups, also the sony and pioneer drives as well. But I mean if they went to all that trouble to to do the swap, it's kinda pointless unless it was modded anyways.

yep thats def not cool DVD's and CD's but not Xbox games, somethings not right there sound like it might be time to replace your drive, if you decide you would like to buy a new drive however I have a few old ones that I kept stored away just in case and I can guarantee they work, I could sell you one cheap if you want, keep me posted.
