I have a xbox ver 1.6 and did a softmod, i put xbmc in the dash folder and it boots into it fine but i cannot play any avi files, i have tried from the network using smb, and i even burned some to dvd and still couldnt play them. I am wondering if the softmod didnt work and if i should just start from scratch. Any advice?

Also i cant seem to ftp into the xbox without it hanging up and locking up.

Thanks for any help, I thought this would be a great thing and maybe it will once I get it working but this reminds me of the first time I tried to install MythTV.

I had a similar problem once and solved it by putting a fresh copy of xbmc in. Worked like a charm

Thanks for the suggestion but I have already tried that twice. Any other suggestions?

I can't see anything else really being wrong with it other than some corruption of some form with xbmc. You might wanna try installing xbmc off of an aid disk over the top of what you have and see if that version works. If it does then boot aid and ftp in to update it. Otherwise I have no idea.

AID has an older build of XBMC on it.

You can get the newest build of XBMC here: http://217.118.215.116/

Well I guess I really screwed the pooch now, i tried to format and do the softmod again and now I have an error 14 service required. Maybe I am too old for this stuff. I used the XBMCai to do it with, I made an AID disc but my xbox wouldnt boot to it for some reason.

Where do I go from here?

If you have the eeprom back up on your PC you will need to rebuild the HDD with xboxhdm if not you need an eeprom reader or a chip.

Try burning it on a different kind of media, xboxes and burnt discs don't play very well together.

I was able to get it to boot to the wbmc ai disc but I guess I screwed something up when I tried to fix my original problem with the disc. So I put the same disc in that was working to boot it with now and my xbox never boots to it. I guess get an error 14.

Take out the Ethernet cable and boot up a live game like halo 2, then go to play a game on xbox live and see if it will repair your MS dash for you.

dont forget DJB has release his new XBMC Installer Deluxe which is just XBMC with softmod isntallers etc.. Smile It would work too - http://aidtracker.com

Personally i would start the mod again from scratch.. Load the games saves onto the hdd again if they are not there and remod it..
