Posted: Tue Mar 31, 2009 9:12 pm Post subject: Alright Guys Just Got My Xbox In And Im Softmodding All Over
First of all I wanna say thanks to Wes and the others that helped me on my questions. I appreciate it very much. Just finally got my xbox in today
and I'm gonna give it a go.
Now basically what I would like to do is install the latest and greatest.
Last time the way I softmodded was with the mecahassault, action replay, mem card etc etc. This worked fine and my default dash installed was Unleashx v.037. I had noticed there was a later version of Unleashx dash out so I tried to install this with AID. It was not booting up as my main dash, but was in the C:, but when I would click on it it would run fine. Now
I wanted this latest version of unleashx which was 0.39 ( there might be something newer) to run as the boot dash. But everytime my xbox would be restarted it would still load up with the older version of Unleashx. So I started getting jumpy and tried to move and copy, etc etc and somehow ended up deleting certain files that throw me one of the "Your Xbox Requires Service Error Codes" and from there It just went downhill. I tried to do a hotswap to correct the error and then my xbox just started smoking and it seemed like the power supply blew or something. I didnt wanna hassle fixing it so I just got another xbox.
So basically I just wanna know the best way to install the latest and greatest. I could do the mechassault way I modded my last box which will get me to unleashx v0.37, but I wanna the lastest version of this dashboard. So what would be the best way to do this?? Should I go ahead and get it modded to go to the v0.37 unleashx and then from there run the AID 4.40 disc and try to get me to the latest unleashx from there. I just basically wanna know what you guys suggest. I had no problem doing the softmod this way, but if theres any other way you guys would suggest or anything to basically get me to the latest dash, apps, etc etc I'd appreciate it very much.
Also I know backing up the eeprom seems to be pretty important, so whats the best way to do this?? I remember when I did softmod my other xbox there was a prompt asking me if I wanted to backup the eeprom. I believe I did, but I'm not sure on whats the best way to go about this and if theres better ways to do it. I'm thinking after backing up the eeprom I could somehow ftp the backup eeprom to my computer(of course after I get ftp going), etc etc.
I read something around on making a disc too, but I didnt read too much into it and cant find it anymore. Anyway guys I just wanna be set abd prepared for the worse in case anything does happen. I think that pretty much answer my questions I have at the moment. Anyhelp on this would be much appreciated. I thank everybody who helped me on my previous posts in the past. Thanks in advance guys.

You long question has a nice short answer bud, do the install the way you did the last time but you keep saying you want the latest and greatest so you might want to install XBMC as your dash as it has 10 times the features of any other dash for the xbox.
When you see the option to back up the eeprom you will see an option to move the eeprom to your E drive and you should use that, then when you can FTP the xbox and copy (not move) that folder to your PC.
Let me know if i over looked anything or if you need ant more help.

COol man. I got everything going. Now to get the xbmc I can use the aid 4.40 right?? Now all I really wanna do is make this my main dashborad. So how would I go for that with aid 4.40. Where would I save so that when I boot up my xbox the xbmc will be the dash. I know when I was autoinstalling last time it would have different drives to save too. Just wanna mke sure I install xbmc right. Almost there mayne. After this I should be good to go. Looks like my eeprom backed up fine too so once I get ftped I'll get that going next. Other than this I should be good to go. If you could suggest anything else let me know. Emus, Apps, etc etc. I mainly use my dreamcast for the nes emu, but I'm deciding on whether to use the wii or xbox for the snes emu. Theres a few options in aid 4.40. Theres Mod Chip One Click Install, Softmod One Click Install, and Dashboard Section option. Which do I choose. I'm thinking Dashboard Section Correct?? Not sure though. Under there theres a few options like install ms5960 dash, and install C drive dashboards, d drive dashboards, e drive dashboards etc etc. After those ones theres another section to install the dashboards but there labeled Install C Drive Dash(Softmod) Install D Drive Dash(Softmod), Install E Drive Dash (Softmod) etc etc. I think I'm almost there man. Basically now I just need to know the right place to install xbmc from this step so that it will be my main/boot dashboard. Also this version of unleashx0.37 would allow to me also boot back to the ms dash. Could I do that from xbmc?? We have so few rules here and it seems like the one that gets ignored the most is the biggest one so read the DAMN rules guys.

You want the softmod one click install and then it will let you pick the dash (XBMC) and install to the E drive.
As for why it can still boot to MS dash its built in to unleash but once you got the xbox going you will never really use it since the xbox live option is damn near dead for xbox 1.
As for apps pick what you like but you will want dvd dongle free and dvd 2 xbox for sure.
