Hello,
I'm a relative xbox modding noob. I've only softmodded my xbox recently with AID and installed a few emus and got all my roms working through trial and error and google. I realized that now would probably be a good time to think about upgrading the hard drive for more space, but I have a few questions I couldn't find in the tutorials:
1 - Do I need a chip installed to upgrade the hard drive?

2 - Once I am finished and the new drive is locked, will I be able to play my original xbox discs still?

Thanks in advance, I heavily support the xbox modding community.

HEY and welcome to the HQ, we all hope that you enjoy the site and teh people here as well as we are always willing to help.

Now, to answer the questions you are inquiring about.

1)No, you do not need a chip to install the new hard drive, you will just need to make sure it is locked since you have a softmod or it will not work and you will get an error 4 or 5 i cant remember exactly which one.

2)Yes, you can still use the original discs after you lock the hard drive. the hard drive just needs to be locked because the xbox motherboard BIOS requires that the hard drive be locked so that people cant just easily replace it Smile.

If you have any more questions, PLEASE ask we are here to help you!

You can click on the link under my sig. That will guide you through the process. Remember, do not unlock your retail drive. If you do then you will surely need a chip.
