Post subject: Connect external usb storage device to Xbox... not recognize

Hi everyone,

I've tried like 3 different usb storage devices on the softmodded xbox
(I use a controller port to usb cable which I use for softmodding),

but none of them are working in XBMC?
does it depend on the chip?
if it's softmodded that does not matter?
or is the controller to usb cable not compatible for that use?

I guess it has to be the type of chip used in the usb controller,
because that 128mb medion usb stick works for transferring savegames to softmod... (not going to try that one now in XBMC, because last time I was playing around with it I lost the data on it... so I had to get the savegames on it again...)

anyone experience with that?

thanks,

Regards!

thanks,
but I know that one (I have a Medion USB stick to softmod through savegame exploit),

but it says clearly:
Quote:
Please observe that this is not a Linux compatibility list. Once you run Linux, all Linux-supported USB mass storage devices will work as for a normal PC. This list only applies to devices you can use to transfer savegames. That is, it is a list of devices which are recognized as memory cards by the MS Dashboard.

so you haven't read it urself Embarassed ...

I'm talking here about using it with XBMC, so with softmod on it,
so that means linux is on it,
what I want now is to connect an external hdd so I can watch movies straight from the external USB hard drive...

anyone experience with this?

thanks for any help & info!

The xbox wont see over 4GB of space from the USB so its best to run smb share for movies with xbmc.

thanks for your reply!

thats just a fancy way (& more secure) to share files over network, right?

well I just share my files on pc and then access them by setting my ip in XBMC,

but the problem here is what if you don't have a network cable at your tv & xbox, and you don't want to buy a wireless apapter...

well guess will have to run a network cable to the xbox, darn...

The only other options are to move the ISOs to a flash drive each time you want to watch one or put a bigger HDD in the xbox and load the movies right to it or like you said go wireless.
