Most any auto place or walmart will have a power inverter that will work for any house hold electronics.

Well yeah but i'm not putting the whole xbox in there, thats a redneck way to do it I'm ditchin the case and hiding the board inside the center console, losing the dvd drive and running the audio and video cables up through the dash to the TV screen...don't most people who put xboxes in cars do it that way? so really i what i want is to ditch the xbox power supply and find a pc power supply that runs off a car i spose...just wondered if anyone else had done it that way

OK, first you will have to remove and the daughter board from the dvd drive and keep attached to ide cable if running a softmod. If you were chipping it, you could do away with dvd entirely.
They do have less expensive psu's available that output less power. I have even seen posts here saying the less expensive models work well.... NOT! I have tried many and most if not all fail to boot the xbox. It is a power hog on boot up!
Lastly you will need a neat little board (wish I saw this before building my own) that converts the PSok and PSon signals. Sickmods says out of stock, but I have 1 extra if you wanted to take this route and purchase from me.

Soooo, in closing, it can and has been done by myself and others.

Now thats exactly what i wanted...i already knew i needed to keep the board off of the dvd drive...i've tested it that way and it just thinks the drive is open which is fine with me i don't care about that...that power supply shows on the website some kind of win xp setup program...i assume it will run just fine on the xbox without that connection to a pc...but this is a big help, i knew this could be done...i'll probably be in touch with some more stupid question
