I am trying to upgrade a Xbox Hard drive for a friend. I tried to use xboxhdm but I found out the drive doesn't support the ATA security spec. I am trying to use Chimp but experiencing problems. Firstly, I followed tje tutorials in terms of opening the xbox, using the molex splitter, launching the chimp app then unplugging the cable then plugging it into the new drive. However I always get a completely green screen then nothing. I have used chimp in the past with no issues at all. If I try to swap just after the boot screen and then launch the app, it just says application launching and just sits with that message on the screen and does not change. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

The xbox you are trying to chimp is a 1.6 so you will need to telnet in to it.
Wes213, Thanks a lot for the help and support. You saved my bacon. Once again Xbox-HQ came through.

God knows in the last year chimp and soft mods are all any one is using, i was almost sure that since the xbox is dead you would see a point ware chips would sell for like 15 and 20 bucks so dealers could get rid of what they got but it looks like I'm still waiting on that. LOL

Well i must admit that lately every xbox that ive fixed has been a softmod.
If only they were mod-chipped..?!? lol. I could have just whacked in good old AID..
Ill be experimenting with chimp this weekend. Any other new programs available that i should know about or is chimp fine?
I suppose i could just do it my normal way using my modchipped machine to lock the drive with the correct keys and stuff but chimp sounds interesting.

Yep, guide is in the usual place under my sig and should see you clear. Like wes says, if its a v1.0 - v1.5 it'll be a breeze to go through and get you upgraded in no time. If it is the ever-helpful 1.6 box, then, unless you want to use XboxHDM, you'll be telnetting the chimp program to get it to work. Guide for that is at the bottom of my Chimp guide.

I have read your tut on how to telnet to a 1.6. but no joy. i run chimp 2.4 on the xbox the screen goes green as expected, but then i just cannot get the telnet to work from the PC.
If i set my xbox IP to 192.168.1.4 and then on the PC type "telnet 192.168.1.4" i think i can get communication between them before i run chimp, but as soon as i run chimp i lose the connection. If i run chimp then i cannot communicate.
In the sytems/ network settings, i changed the HTTP to Yes, set the HTTP port to 23. Proxy is set to 192.168.0.1 same a the gateway on the PC.
i'm kinda running out of ideas now of what else to try. I looked through pages and pages of tutorials, but can't find anything regarding this prblems, other than just type in telnet 192.168.0.3 and away you go.
set the pc ip to 192.168.0.1
set the xbox ip to 192.168.0.4
run chimp and type in the cmd window on your pc telnet 192.168.0.3 _________________
