hey...i modded my box (v1.6 i believe) like 4 or 5 yrs ago and at the time put in a 200GB Maxtor drive...I unfortunately don't remember the exact steps i took re: lba support, etc...but i know i allocated everything to F and I was able to see the full drive.

Anyways...every thing worked great up until the other day when my roomate uploaded a movie and all of a sudden everything crashed...when I restarted it booted EXTREMELY slowly and my F drive shows up as nothing...it's there, but claims to have 0 space and I can't see anything that used to be on it...

The only explanation that I can come up with is that this one particular upload caused the drive to become larger than 137GB and it caused my dashboard to no longer see the F partition...

Before I go ahead and do something foolish like re-formatting and starting from scratch, I thought I'd post here to see if anyone has had the issue or knows of any solution? Since I can still access my C and see the dashboard files, etc maybe I can use EVTOOL and re-upload the .bin? Thoughts???

Thanks dudez...

Welcome to the HQ we hope you enjoy the site.

Check all the settings in the dash and make sure the F drive is still enabled.

awesome thanks wes...much appreciated...here's what i know, let me know if you need more...I modded it like 5 yrs ago so forgive me if I've forgotten things or am missing crucial info here Smile

I believe my box is v1.6
Modded with SmartXX chip (orig used ed to upload but now use ftp within evox)
Running Evox dashboard
Maxtor 200GB hard drive formatted and all allocated to F drive
There was approx 90GB showing available at the time of the crash

The crash seems to have been caused by the uploading of a movie...unfortunately it was my roomate that did it, so I don't know all the specifics but he didn't say it kicked up any errors or anything...upload seemed to work fine but when rebooted, no F drive Shocked

The problem doesn't seem to be the drive as I can still boot to it, it just takes a looooong time and as i said, F drive shows 0 space and all my games/movies/apps are gone...menu still exists the way it was and there doesn't seem to be any changes to the .ini file.

Thanks again man...

in the menus go to system utils > settings.
Scroll down to the misc section and look for Use F drive.
change it to yes, then scroll all the way down to the bottom and select save and exit.

If thats not it do you have an OS on the smart xx chip ware you can look for the same option?

Did you clear the E cache folder and delete what ever it was he added?

Thanks Wes...will double check the options you mentioned but I'm pretty sure I did check these previously...

First time I've heard of the E cache...does that mean that even if he uploaded directly to the F drive, the E would potentially cache a copy of it?? I can access the E drive so I'll empty the cache folder and see if that works....

When ever anything is added to your xbox it will potentially cache it and get stuck so after an install of anything i clear my cache.

To me it sounds like his F:\ is corrupt because it went over 137 gig. What you need to make is change the bios to F:\ to 137 rest to G:\. This should fix the problem. Then repartition the F:\ and the G:\ and you should be fine. You will lose all the contents of the F:\ drive.

yeah, he should have made 2 partitions for anything over 137 gigs.
