I bought my kids a softmodded xbox for Christmas.
they played it for two weeks then the softmod would not boot.
I went out and got an old copy of Splinter Cell and reloaded the save game. Loaded and I was able to restore the C drive and the machine worked again for 2 days then the softmod would not boot again.
Now, when I try to load the save game (Linux), the machine reboots into the Splinter Cell game but with the Led changed to Orange.
I have tried getting newer versions of the Softmod Installer but the result is the same.
Any ideas on what I need to do to fix this?

Welcome to the HQ man, hope you enjoy the site.
First off go into your xbox dash and delete the SID installer and all the splinter cell save games. Then get SID 5.0 if you don't already. Put it onto your memory card and put them onto your xbox hardrive. Now splinter cell should boot fine.
I'm assuming that you have action replay here. If you don't then I think you can use a flash drive but you have to do some controller cutting. You should be able to get action replay off ebay for maybe $20 at the most. _________________

I appreciate the quick reply.
I have done that. It took a while for me to get Action Replay which is why the machine sat unused for weeks.
Today with action replay, I deleted the save game and the SID loader (I even rebooted the Xbox in between tries) and tried 5.0 and 5.1 but I get the same response. It starts to load the Linux savegame, screen flashes White a few times, then the game loads back up with the Orange Led (means softmodded, right?)
I was going to try fixing it with xboxHDM but I do not have the eeprom.bin so it will not unlock the drive and therefore will not read it. It at least does indicate that fatx is on the drive.

Might just be your brand of memm card, the AR cards tend to currupt the installer.

I have tried using three Xbox memory cards as well as the card that came with action replay.
So you are thinking that the installer is corrupted?

Well now that i know you tryed 4 diffrent memm cards i guess thats not it.
Have you tryed to FTP to the xbox?

Is the splinter cell game non platinum? If its not the old non platinum version the installer wont load. _________________

Got the same behavior in Jan with 007. Installing the mod would reboot the game and still keep the orange light... no dashboard ever... I have never been able to fix it...
Wondering if I could connect to the box using FTP while the led is Orange.. anyone can confirm ?
