Hello, I'm new to this. I searched the forum but couldn't find my exact situation.
I have a first run Xbox with the proper dash version to install SID5.01. I installed DualBoot, Virtual C + EPROM for HD, and the first option for the Hacked Dash (I don't remember the name).
I had trouble getting the install to complete. I rebooted it without a DVD just like the on-screen instructions said, but it wouldn't finish the install until I unplugged the Xbox and then booted it without a DVD.
Anyway, I wanted to try the UnleashedX dash because I didn't perticularly like the look of the first option. I started a Remove Softmod opperation and almost immediately the screen went black. I can still hear the hard drive working and I'm afraid to shut it off. It has been like that for over 2 hours.
How long should this take? Is there any danger in shutting it off like this? Is there something I need to do that I can't see?
Any help would me much appreciated.

Welcome to the xbox-hq, we hope you enjoy the site.
It sounds like you forgot to unmount the virtual C drive, thats not good.
I wold say go ahead and shut it down and see if it will boot anything at all.
Did you back up the eeprom .bin to your PC?

Thanks.
Well, being new to this I have very little idea what I'm doing.
I made backups of the MS Dash and EPROM before installing the Softmod, but that was through SID. I don't have a backup anywhere other than the Xbox HDD.
I went ahead and shut it down and rebooted. I didn't have time to mess with it much before I left home, but it appears to boot ok into both Softmod dash and MS Dash. It almost looks like it did nothing, but I haven't tried to run any other software on it yet.
Are there instructions floating around that would tell me the right way to change to UnleashedX or any other dash?
Thanks for your help.

You can get aid 4.10 here: http://www.aidtracker.com/ burn it to a disk and pop it in the xbox and use soft mod dash installer to put the dash you want in the E drive.

Ok, thanks. I'll try that when I get home.
I wasn't sure I could do that because I thought the SID install instructions said something about not installing a new dash if I chose to install the Hacked/MS Dash dual boot.

The info I'm using is the PDF that came with SID 5.01
"Chapter 10: Removing the Softmod.
This is by far the easiest thing to do if you use the installer, simply have you MS Backup not modded, and run “Uninstall Softmod” and all will be done automatically, just make sure you read the onscreen options so you don’t run into any mistakes when it comes to deleting all other files on E:\.
The Uninstall feature will do it all for you, but you’ll get prompt for special actions, on prompts, you don’t have to say “YES” unless it’s what you want to do."
I can't get AID to boot. Does my Xbox need a mod-chip to run AID?

If it is a first run Xbox it may be the type of disk you burned AID on. I find that DVD-R work the best I've only tried 8x burnable DVD-Rs.
Also I burn them at the slowest possible speed.
Mine will not read a DVD+R at all
That is of course if you Burned your disk _________________

if you use alcohol 120% then you can change the the book type of the blank dvd you are using set the recording method to dvd-rom and it will read the disk much better than other programs if find .
so try that if you like maybe it will help you make a working disk
this is really for using other blank dvds ie:+r +rw etc.
